A word or two from the author of this fic

. . .

My work is finished, I can now take it with me to my coffin and lock myself up in there for the rest of times.

Seriously though... honestly I don't know what to say. To tell you the truth, when I was writing the last chapter, my own hands were shaking. But there are more important things that I have to tell you so let's get to it.

First of all:
Thank you very much for reading what I have to say after the last two, absolutely heart shattering chapters. If you have made it through, you're awesome and I am grateful for your committment and putting up with my weird phantasies.

Also, I got the idea with the flashbacks at the end from one Philip Hamilton fanfiction, I think it was called "Time traveller" or something similar, BUT I CAN'T FIND IT ANYWAHERE! So... just so you know...

Second of all:
Why did Maya have to get shot?
*deep sigh*
Because she knew that it was not her story. She kind of broke the fourth wall and saw that she isn't meant to be a part of it; that she is just a fanfiction... that it's just this "what if". But as you may have noticed, the thing that bothered her the most was that she could never change the course of events around her. Despite what she was doing, she had almost no impact on the result. So when she came to the conclusion that she shouldn't be there, she also realized that Christine would die. And Maya, being Maya, couldn't let that happen.

And I think that this is really what fanfictions are for. Every story is written that certain way because someone decided that it's best this very way, not another. But let's face it, we all like coming up with those "what if's" - just like I had come up with Maya - to try and change the story a bit. And sometimes it can not make a single difference, and sometimes a greatest change.

Third of all:
Do I think that this ending is better than the last one?
Of course not. I just broke my own record in writing about death and grief... Should I be proud? Nnnnaaah, I don't think so. While writing, I had grown attached to Maya. She's my OC, my creation, she became my friend inside my own mind (however weird that makes me sound XD), and I couldn't kill her "just like that", without any second thoughts (and believe me, I've had many. Remember when I said I didn't have the ending chosen? That was why...)

Quoting one of my favourite musicals (and my friend):
🎶That's not a worthy explanation, I knooooow there is none...🎶

But don't forget what was written at the end of "Phantom Child": The ending is always worth it in a way.

And with that, I take the final bow once again before you and leave you to think about what I said. Maybe now you'll look at certain things differently because of it; because of me. It was a pleasure, sharing this story with you.

For the last time,

Your allegiant friend,

N.C.
