Aizawa's POV

If you were walking into the number one hero's agency, you would assume that it would be bustling with people and loud chatter. So, I obviously found it weird when I walked in with Hawk's slung over my shoulder to complete silence.

The front room and receptionists desk was void of any people, and the only sound that could be heard apart from mine and Dabi's shuffling feet would be the soft whir of the air conditioner at the far end of the room. On any other day, it would have been a bad thing for a place like this to be left so unprotected, but after quickly double thinking about the situation I was currently in, it was obvious that not being seen entering the building with Dabi was best. Hawks had probably told everyone to clear out for the night for a specific period of time, so the urge to quickly make it up to the top floor to his office was pressuring.

I didn't know how much time we had left.

Dabi looked small and uncomfortable behind me, draped in a big – and I mean a really big – black trench coat with the hoodie pulled down to cover half his face in shadow. He was hunched over slightly, his gaze only leaving the floor for a few seconds at a time to make sure he wasn't falling behind me. His hands were stiff at his side, but they were twitching, and when Hawks clumsily stumbled beside me while he walked in his half-awake state, his hand had shot out to help, but he had just as quickly pulled his scarred hand away, hiding them within the pockets of the coat. I didn't know the relationship between Hawks and Dabi very well apart from what Hawks had babbled about while he stayed behind in class to help me clean down the classroom, but I knew that before Touya went missing and presumed dead, they used to be really close friends. I silently promised to remind myself that they should probably have some time alone to talk things out. A lot has changed in the past eight years.

"Floor 25, door on the far right. Elevator password is 47399. Office password is Babybird22."

Hawks' voice startled me, and I looked down to see his golden eyes cracked open, his gaze slightly fogged over and staring straight ahead. I hummed a soft word of acknowledgement, deciding not to question his password choices, and made my way to the elevator.

After pressing the 'up' button, the elevator arrived straight away, which further reasoned that we were probably the only people wandering around the building. Once inside, I quickly punched out the code into a side pad, and pressed the glowing floor number while the doors closed.

Beside me, Hawks shifted. "Let me go, Aizawa Sensei. I can stand on my own."

I rolled my eyes, and held back a sigh while I helped him stand upright before letting him go. "If you can stand on your own, then you can stop calling me that. You're not my student anymore."

The other hero let out a tired chuckle. "I might not be your student anymore, but I'm still your all-time best and favourite."

I trained my eyes on him and his slightly swaying frame, and couldn't help but smirk at his stubbornness. "You should meet two of my other students. They can be troublemakers, but I guess you like kids with some spirit."

He let out a heavy breath. "Spirit? Sure. I guess you're not talking about Tokoyami then. He's such a great kid – he's gonna be a good hero one day, but thrives in sarcasm more than he does in spirit."

On any other day, I would have said something against him putting my student down, but I knew he didn't mean any harm from it. Hawks knew what he was talking about, especially after the hero intern week when he decided to take on Tokoyami.

The elevator dinged and the doors opened without any interruption as we arrived at the allocated level. Hawks sighed and pushed off the elevator wall that he was leaning on, being the first to walk out with disoriented steps.
