Y/n POV

it has been three days since the war. Silver and blaze made themselves scarce to discuss if their mission was completed or not, something about things not adding up logically according to blaze. Amy and knuckles had to leave the city for friend's place, someone named cream. From what Amy said knuckles is getting used to being blind. He sees it as a way to get stronger instead of weaker. He says that this sharpens his senses far beyond what he had before. As for shadow well, he did his shadow thing and walked out into the city all edgy saying he had to make sure eggman was dead. As for me and sonic we were heading to the surface to discuss things with dr pogo. We walked along an abandoned street holding hands. "So then, what do you think will happen"? I asked sonic honestly. "Knowing pogo he will try to say something about you and how you're dangerous, don't worry I won't let them take you". He said reassuringly.

We walked into the park to see pogo sitting at a desk with two armed guards. No other vehicles in sight. "This doesn't spell trap". Mumbled sonic as we walked over standing in front of the desk. "Ah good you two made it! I wish to discuss matters about rick and you, y/n the cheetah". I clenched my fist and nodded. "for matters regarding rick the scorpion aka scorponok or rick the drought, depending on which name you refer to him as he has been restrained with zero chance of ever escaping". He pulled out a laptop and spun it around to show us. I saw that rick was strapped to a wall with iron clamps. He would not be able to move an inch. He even had a nice little muzzle over his mouth. From the ceiling of this room there was a sprinkler system constantly keeping him wet. "He is currently in an underwater facility deep within the ocean miles below the surface. Should by some miracle he break out of his containment cell the building will be flooded and he will drown. Even if he somehow makes it out of the building the pressure of the outside would crush him rendering him unable to swim miles up to the surface. In English speaking rick will never be a problem again". Said pogo proudly.

I felt myself let out a breath I didn't know I was holding in. "that's good and all pogo, but what exactly are you planning to do with the situation regarding me"? I asked seriously. Pogo reached up and adjusted his glasses. "We will be letting you go, under the guise of a government cover up". I blinked confused. "Explain pogo I want to know more". Said sonic as he tapped his foot impatiently. "Alright let me sum it up". Said pogo as he stood up closing the laptop. "We all made foolish mistakes during the war of authority, or so it's been dubbed by the troops who so stupidly leaked out details of the fight. Many of them have been sworn to silence now. The cover up story is rick was an extraterrestrial invader who fought against sonic and the phantom thief of west point in a battle to the death. Considering how many of our casualties were caused by your people we will be letting this go so long as you agree never to share the information regarding the creation of y/n, rick and the currently missing morph or according to sonic dio".

He brought out a folder with information on the phantom thief. "I'll be frank with you both, this is the chance for the phantom thief to disappear one last time, because the government is building a new city, a new west point as its being called. Lead by one hastily elected pastor Donavon". Me and sonic were both incredibly confused. We glanced at each other both wondering if it's the same person. "He claims to have been the one who trained the phantom thief and people are holding him responsible to become the next mayor and take care of the homeless problem, properly". Pogo said as he sat back down. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "As interesting of a cover up as that is I would have to agree. If pastor Donavon is becoming the new mayor of the city then it's in good hands, the phantom thief will be vanishing into the night one last time". Sonic nodded as he glanced at me. "We won't tell anybody about how badly you guys messed up and how it caused the death of millions, this is a simple deal that I'm willing to take and I'm sure the rest of our group would agree". Sonic said confidently. Pogo huffed as he glared at us both. "Oh come now, sonic and y/n the big dogs on top made this offer but the real reason we must make this deal is so that there is no more senseless slaughter". He proclaimed standing back up.

"This concludes our meeting, goodbye until one day we meet again". Pogo said as he quickly left the table there walking away with his guards. Sonic shook his head. "Man that guy is a serious bummer". He said as he yawned. "Man today feels like a lazy day y/n lets head back to the underground". I chuckle a bit as I patted him on the back. "Yea alright, let's go sonic". We took our time getting back to the underground. As we exited the entrance we saw shadow sitting at a table with this weird little black horned thing. It wore red shoes and a belt with a big M on it. He was currently chowing down on some ice cream. "No way is that you bokkun"?! Said sonic surprised as he jumped back. She looked up at us as bokkun shot up flying over to us. "Hey it took you guys long enough to come back"! He pouted as shadow walked over. "Let me explain, in my search for eggman I found him wandering the streets of the ruined city". Shadow said as bokkun pulled out a small TV. He set it on the ground and smirked. "The doctor said if I wander around enough that someone would pick me up"! bokkun said gleefully as he turned on the TV.

The TV only showed static before a video of eggman popped up. He seemed to be sitting in a wheel chair, most likely paralyzed from the waist down; his face was covered in terrible scars from third degree burns. He had an oxygen tube hooked up to his face as well, and to top it all off his left arm was now robotic. "If you are seeing this it means bokkun actually managed to do his job, to whichever one of the blue rat's buddies that are listening to this". He took a deep breath as the oxygen machine connected to him beeped. "You have a traitor among you". He finally said as my eyes narrowed. "There is a reason for how coincidental it was that we all found ourselves at the docks that day. I got an anonymous tip about where you were all going, I suspect the government and even rick was somehow tipped off of your whereabouts, could you explain whatever else the reason could be"? eggman said as he took another deep breath. "I don't know who it is for certain nor do I know what their motive was however, what I do know is that I hate being double crossed and being used almost as much as I hate sonic"! He said angrily as he slammed a first down on his wheelchairs arm.

"I don't care if you believe me or not but know this, right now everyone around you is an enemy". eggman groaned as he rubbed his head. "It will be a long while before we meet again, till then don't lose it's my job to crush you all"! With that the screen went black. Then the TV exploded covering us all in black powder. I coughed quickly shaking it all off as bokkun quickly flew off. "Jokes on you losers"! He said as he flew into the tunnels. "I just met him and I already hate him". I hissed as shadow closed his eyes in deep thought. "Call everybody and make sure the city of the forgotten is completely empty". Said shadow as he began to walk away. "Hey hold it shadow what do you mean"? Sonic asked as he ran in front of shadow. "No matter how much I look at it eggman is very right, things don't add up". Shadow replied simply. "So wait did you figure out who the supposed traitor is"? I asked as he nodded. "Yea but it's not one of us". He said looking towards the church.

My ears flattened against my head as he stormed off. "Sonic, go get silver and blaze". I said as he nodded zooming off. I decided I was going to beat shadow there first. I jumped through one of my portals arriving in the churches chapel. I saw pastor Donavon at his podium staring at me surprised. "Ah y/n what is it that brought you here today? Come to congratulate me in becoming a mayor? Well hate to disappoint but I'm not all too thrilled". He motioned around the chapel with his hands. "This is where I was meant to lead, giving hope to those through gods home where all can find salvation". My blood ran cold as I shook my head. "I want to ask you a question my old friend, and I want you to answer it honestly, swear to god and to me that you won't lie". He smiled softly and nodded. "Of course I swear to you and god that I tell the truth". He said as he stepped away from his podium walking over. "Are you responsible for telling eggman and the government about all of us meeting at the docks"? I asked narrowing my eyes. He frowned shaking his head. "I'm afraid I have no idea what you speak of my dear, forgive me". I sighed feeling foolish.

"Don't lie you fat bastard". Said shadow as he entered the church. "My child, watch your language you are in the house of god"! Said pastor Donavon aghast at his behavior. Shadow let out a loud humph. "Don't play coy with me no one in the group would betray us, it's not that I trust them I just don't think it's logical that they would, considering how much they have lost". Shadow did have a point every one of us had things to lose and have lost so it wouldn't make any sense to be any one of them. "heya guys what did we miss"? Asked sonic as he ran in with blaze and silver. "The cause of all of our problems". Said shadow as he pointed to Donavon. "What are you talking about"? Silver asked as he looked between shadow and me. "If you don't believe me then I'm going to beat the truth out of him"! Shadow said angrily as he tossed a chaos spear at Donavon. I gasped as it hit him dead center causing a mini explosion. Donavon groaned and slowly began to cry. I moved over and slugged shadow hard in the jaw. "YOU PSYCOPATH"! I hissed angrily.

"Hey are you alright"?! Asked sonic as he ran over to Donavon. "Y-yes I-I do believe I will be fine". Donavon said wiping a few tears away. Suddenly we all heard a weird loud beeping coming from sonic. "You lying bastard". Said sonic as he slugged Donavon in the jaw sending him flying into the benches. "SONIC THE HELL"?! I asked shocked as sonic cracked his knuckles. "Stay back y/n he isn't who he says he is". He pulled out a small handheld device and walked towards me, the machine made the same noise as it did before he punched Donavon. "This devise detects chaos energy, I borrowed it from pogo before I went to go get those two, it doesn't work on me because I don't radiate the stuff I just have a built up tolerance to it". He turned it off as Donavon slowly stood up not raising his head to meet any of our eyes. An ominous aura began to pour out from around him. Sonic rushed towards him and pulled out a gun. "Surprise"! Sonic said as he shot him in the head. My eyes went wide as everyone in the room was taken aback by Sonics action. though instead of blood coming out from the other side of his head long strands of yellow flesh that seemed almost metallic flowed out of his head moving around slowly sonic jumped back as pastor Donavon suddenly grew spikes from his body destroying the benches around him.

"ITS TIME FOR YOU TO REVEAL WHO YOU REALLY ARE DIO"! Shouted sonic as my heart felt like it stopped. "D-Donavon"? I mumbled in disbelief as his flesh peeled away from his body to reveal a crocodile. "For once you have some brains, sonic the hedgehog". Mumbled dio as he cracked his neck. "Y/n my old friend I'm not sorry for deceiving you". He said while his skin returned to his body. "I have used you for so long to meet my own needs". He leaned back against the wall. "I was surprised that you shot me with a gun sonic". Sonic smirked and rubbed his nose. "No you got it wrong dio, these are all blanks I stole these from shadow, but that was a great bluff right"? Shadow had a visible stress vein as he kicked sonic in the back of the head. "DONT STEAL MY STUFF YOU LITTLE SHIT"! Shadow yelled extremely pissed. I gulped feeling my heart rising into my throat. "H-how involved in this are you really pastor"? I asked as he glanced at me. "Its dio dear, are you still trying to hold onto that illusion? Though I was your first friend". He cooed as he held up his fingers.

"Now let's see here, I was the one who brought rick back to this planet". Shock was evident among everyone's faces. "I sent an old homeless panda to the world he conquered to draw him back with rumors of you y/n. I also played the part of chief bogo, someone who had power within the police department. You were never sloppy enough to leave a trace so I never had to distract them and pretend to be him. I was quite surprised when sonic showed up that day in the alleyway. I used bogo's influence to erase data about the possible existence of an underground city of homeless. Then there are all those times eggman and rick always managed to find you when you were out and about". He shrugged shaking his head. "I found that you were slowly losing your usefulness, becoming more and more powerful". Shadow pointed at him. "Explain why you brought rick here". dio nodded smirking. "Well let me start off with this, my cells are eternal so I lived for a very long time, all the way to what I assume is your time silver the hedgehog".

Silver gritted his teeth. "So you are the apocalyptic trigger"?! He said angrily. dio nodded waving his hand dismissively. "Hmm I suppose so but you all fixed that for me so worth it. I traveled back in time to meet y/n and become their mentor, but they needed a bad guy to make them look really good". He said almost growling. "Then came when you lost to rick, you were laying on your deathbed broken and used for your purpose. I decided I was going to throw you away so I disconnected you IV bag so you would die before sonic returned however, you miraculously survived". I slowly felt my blood boil as he slowly transformed into a purple panda with a scar across his left eye. "Sonic you must remember me"! He said opening his arms as sonic grunted. "The guy I asked directions for at eggmans factory". Sonic said while dio slowly nodded. "I went myself there to destroy it but no, you showed up so I let you do it instead. The whole you're the bad guy stick was an act obviously".

My claws slowly poked out from my fingers tips as dio waved his finger. "Tsk, tsk y/n don't do that after all, if you all try anything stupid I'll reveal exactly what you all did to this world". He cooed causing me to burst out in laughter. He frowned ear to ear as the rest of us began to laugh. "We accepted that to protect our friends, but if we take that deal we will no long stand for justice and all that is good in this world"! Said sonic as dio growled. "Justice? Whoever walks away from this battle becomes justice sonic the hedgehog"! dio said angrily as his body began to grow. "Silver stop him"! Said blaze as silver used his powers to hold dio down. "My boy, you can hold me down but you can't stop me from growing"! dio hissed out as he grew spikes along his body stretching them out to impale silver. "Yea not gonna happen"! I said shoving silver through one of my portals.

"Sonic go make sure everyone is out of the underground shadow help me get close lay down surprising fire"! Sonic nodded and zoomed off as shadow pulled out a shotgun. "One of my favorite words"! He said as I glanced back at blaze. "I sent silver to the other side of the underground he will be the pastors main target protect him for now"! Blaze nodded and jumped out a window as dio slammed his large claws where she was just standing. Wait since when does he have claws? I looked over as shadow pumped round after round of shotgun slugs into dio's face. dio had grown to the size of an minivan his skin was somewhat melting off slowly dripping to the floor. "Yea bullets aren't working and that pisses me off"! Said shadow as he jumped out of the way of dio's claws. "Get out of the church lets go"! Shadow nodded as he ran outside with me while dio gave chase breaking through the front of the building leaving a massive hole.

"I have a stupid idea tell blaze to meet me in dio's garden"! I said franticly as shadow nodded taking out a chaos emerald. "Consider it done; just make sure he gets there". He said teleporting away. Funny I thought knuckles made sure to take all the chaos emeralds with him. Knuckles is going to be so pissed. "Hey I'm not done with you y/n"! dio said ominously as he suddenly appeared in front of me. "How did you get in front of me"?! I asked surprised jumping back just as he slammed his large claws into the ground. "That doesn't matter dear"! He said reaching over and picking up a house. "Because all that matters is that I squash you"! He brought the house down on top of me. Though he missed as I appeared far above his head tonfa raised. I fell straight down and hit him hard in the head causing his massive body to topple over. That seemed odd considering how he couldn't take damage before. I landed on my feet gazing at him with a mix of hatred and sorrow.

"You're body isn't like ricks is it"? I asked curiously as he swung at me with his claws again. They destroyed another building as I tried to steady my breathing. I still hadn't fully recovered from fighting rick. "Ugh that being said you, uh really like swinging those things around, huh"? I was silent for a moment as he got back onto his feet. "Listen dio, because I know you didn't answer me before, but somewhere I can feel it. The real pastor Donavon. I can feel that there is a glimmer of a good person inside of you! The memory of someone who always did the right thing to help out everyone in the underground, including me. C'mon buddy do you remember me? Please if your listening let's forget this, ok? Just lay down your claws and revert back to normal and well, my job will be a lot easier".

For a moment he seemed to have something in his eyes. Was it regret? Maybe he finally realized that what he did was wrong. We could go back to being a family. The look in his eyes vanished as he tried to swipe at me with his left claw. I jumped high into the air to avoid his attack. "welp, it was worth a shot. Guess you like doing things the hard way, huh"? I snapped my fingers feeling my heart shatter even more than it already had. "This is going to make my job a hell of a lot easier than". I took control of his shadow making his body slam right into the ground. When I landed I moved my right arm high up into the air as he flew into the air. "YOU DONT HAVE PSYCHOKINESIS"! He yelled confused. "That's correct, what I do have is the power to control shadows, and whatever I make your shadow do your body will respond". I brought my arm down at a right angle slamming him into a building. "I think you respond only to damage you are expecting, so your body morphs to prepare for the attack".

I swung my arm in a sideways ark sending him through countless buildings and into the cavern wall of the underground. I pulled my arm back as he flew towards me. "That's the thing though your body is technically immortal since you can probably regrow yourself on a molecular level. Which leaves me with one way to deal with you". I swung my arm to the left sending him right towards the building that housed his garden. I casually walked through a portal and stepped into his garden right in front of tail's tree. I looked over to see Donavon slowly giving up. "Y/n we have arrived"! Said blaze as she and shadow arrived through the front door. They both got into a fighting stance as dio entered the building in his normal form. "What would you need me for my friend"? Asked blaze as he covered her fist in fire.

"I needed to borrow the sol emeralds, don't lie I know you have them so fork them over trust me". I said cracking my knuckles. She slowly nodded and handed me all seven. "So what, you intend to finish me off with infinite power? Typical y/n". dio said with a hiss. "Actually, I'm going to make this a fair fight"! I said with glee tossing them in front of tails tree. All of their jaws dropped in confusion. "ARE YOU AS STUPID AS THAT FAKER"?! Asked shadow as he slapped me in the back of the head. dio pushed past all three of us. "Sonic has made you an idiot y/n"! dio said triumphantly. Time seemed to slow down as shadow and blaze turned to confront them. I stretched my arms out stopping them both as a single tree root shot out from the ground impaling dio in the heart. "You two should have trusted me, because I knew we had one friend left who could finish off dio". dio nearly fell limp as he reached for the branch in his chest, but more branches shot out from the ground impaling his arms and legs. "w-what"? Said dio confused as he glared back at me.

"You used me for so long, you were my best friend and the person I trusted the most before I met sonic. I know for certain that this won't kill you. Instead you will be used for something else's benefit just like you used me and all of my friends. you will be imprisoned forever here as nothing more than fertilizer by one of the things you helped to create, and since you supposedly loved the city of the forgotten so much its only right that you would be buried here". I slowly used my portals to grab the sol emeralds returning them to blaze. "It's time to go you two, and fast". Shadow and blaze nodded as they began to walk out of the building. "A megalomaniac is easy to manipulate with the power of the sol emeralds dangling in front of them dio". I slowly turned around as dio reached out to grab at me only to be pulled down to the ground as tails tree began to grow. "W-wait you bitch save me and I'll be good I swear"! He said as he began to realize he could no longer use his powers with the tree feeding off him.

as I stood at the door of the building his garden was housed in I glanced one last time at him to see the roots had spread all throughout his body creeping under his skin and wrapping around the outside cocooning him. "Get dunked on". I said coldly shutting the door behind me. I looked to see shadow and blaze staring at me. "You know I would say something but, right now is a great time to run". Branches and roots began to sprout from the building as I moved all three of us into my portals vanishing as a tidal wave of roots flew past where we were destroying buildings. We appeared on the surface landing on top of silver and sonic. "Hey you guys are really heavy"! Said sonic as we all stood up. Soon the ground began to shake. "Looks like it's still time to run"! I said in a panic as the ground began to split open, abandoned cars alarms went off all at the same time as the entire city experienced an earthquake. We all bolted as the center of the city broken open as tails tree grew through the ground, it had become massive beyond belief.

The tree itself had to be at least a mile around and grew high above the clouds. Its branches thicker than any skyscraper in the city. We eventually stopped on the outskirts of the city to look at the giant tree. "Hey, is dio gone"? Asked sonic as I nodded. "He has suffered a fate far worse than death". I had a hint of sorrow in my voice. Sonic gently took my hand. "You can't save everyone y/n but you sure as heck can try". I smiled slightly and hugged him. "So, what do we do now"? I asked as sonic looked around. "How about we go back to my place, it's a long distance but there is free food, well free for you guys". Sonic said with a chuckle. "You had me at free food". I said rolling my eyes as I snapped my fingers opening a large portal for us all to walk through. We all slowly began to walk one by one through the portal leaving this city behind, but defiantly not for the last time.
