Zelda hugged her knees close to her chest, staring forward into the vast room emptily. She felt so incredibly numb after witnessing her companions, each one destined for a different kind of suffering. One would be used for eternity, the other would completely lose themselves. And regardless which one she picked, the world would certainly turn into chaos. In order to avoid both horrible endings, she knew exactly what she had to do.
She had to kill Jamie.
She took a sharp breath in and laid down roughly on the bed. Jamie had brought her into this desolate room after she gave no answer to his question. The curtains were closed, yet she could hear the pitter-patter of rain outside, slowly turning into a harsher pour as the minutes, maybe even hours went on. It reminded her of her room in the castle, stuffy yet solitary. The room was practically identical, actually, with only minor differences. She wondered if there was another room within this place that was designed this way, but catered to Link's tastes. At the thought of him, she felt like her mind was made up. In order to prevent a horrible fate from occurring, she had to kill Jamie. The person who had supported her through out her whole childhood, who had cared for her more than her actual father had. She had to get rid of him in order to protect those who were dear to her.
Standing from the bed, she looked around the room for any sort of weapon she could possibly use. Unfortunate for her, there wasn't any metal or glass in the room, not even the mirror that sat in front of her bed. It seemed to be made out of some sort of reflective plastic, however that could work. She then walked up to the door and tried to open it, but unfortunately yet unsurprisingly, it was locked. She would try kicking down the door, but assuming it was the middle of the night and Jamie was probably asleep, she figured making a surprise attack would be a better option. She looked for any sort of bobby-pins in her hair but there was none of that either, then she tried to peel off a bit of wood from the bed using her nails, and despite getting a splinter or two, that worked. She made her way back to the door and using the tiny piece of wood, she attempted to unlock the door with it. Things were going pretty well, until she heard someone step up to the front of the door, which made her flinch and scurry away from it.
"Princess, I've come with your dinner. Master Jamie would have come himself, but he is asleep at the moment," said the voice of a young girl. Odd that she specified that he was asleep. Still, Zelda stood up and threw the piece of wood under the bed, beckoning her to come in. A young girl with light blue hair tied up in a ponytail stepped in, carrying a silver platter with a cover over it. She closed the door behind her and bowed, "My name is Lana, I will be serving you from today on."
Zelda looked at the plate wearily, reaching out for the white cloth covering it. She yanked it off, her heart leaping at what she saw. A dagger. "This-"
"Oh goodness, I seem to have made a mistake," Lana gasped. Her eyes flashed red for a second, a gentle smile going across her face. "Princess, I should hope you would forgive me and not report this to Master Jamie, it'd be horrible if you did."
Zelda grabbed the dagger from the plate and held it close to her chest. "Thank you," she whispered, then walked quickly to the door.
"Please do not go to Master Jamie's room, which may or may not be located to the right of this one," Lana said quietly, making Zelda smile a little. Once Zelda was out of the room, Lana reminisced upon the memories of herself and her sister, the memories of when both of them arrived here, unknown to both that would spend the rest of their lives here, eternally separated. "Good luck, Princess."
Zelda undid the lock to Jamie's room, opening the door and being thankful there was no squeaking at all. She tip-toed her way up to the bed, clutching tighter onto the dagger as she gazed upon the sleeping man in front of her. She'd caught him sleeping on duty after nights of arduous battle a couple times before in her childhood, but this time, it was different. She raised the dagger, aiming for his chest. Back then, he never once looked at peace, not even while asleep. He seemed so tired, yet determined, so alert yet unknowing. His eyebrows would furrow every time he breathed in, like he was fighting off the urge to fall asleep and keep being on guard.
