"The Chaos on His Doorstep"

How the hell did I end up in this situation?
Tumingala ako para abutin ang kataasan ng mala kastilyong bahay sa aking harapan. Sobrang taas niya na kailangan ko siyang tinagalain at sobrang lawak na kailangan kong lingunin.
Pinasadahan ko ng tingin ang babaeng nakatayo sa aking harapan. Hindi katulad ko, her eyes are fixed on the main door in front of her.
Nilingon niya ako. Her head is slightly turned in my direction.
I met her eyes.
It is those eyes. The eyes that show nothing. Dull as gray. Like a forever shallow.
A never-ending one. That if you will forever be falling into the darkness.
"Sasabihin mo na ba sa akin kung bakit tayo nandito?" Inikot ko ang tingin sa paligid. "Tingin ko ay hindi tayo pwede rito. We are trespassing. Umalis na tayo bago pa tayo makita ng may ari."
Ngunit hindi siya umalis. It's like she was glued on that place.
"Leave if you want," bumalik ang kaniyang tingin sa harapan. "but I shall remind you what you told me before we got here."
My lips parted.
What?
"Kuya! Kuya! Kuya!"
Agad akong napabalikwas sa aking kinauupuan nang marinig ang pagsigaw ng aking kapatid.
I was sitting on my desk chair, nagaaral ngunit nakatulog, not until I heard screams in the other room.
Binuksan ko ang pintuan nang marahas. That's when I found Sherry on her bed, awake with tears pooling out of her eyes.
It happened again?
Agad ko siyang dinaluhan at hinaplos nang dahan dahan ang kaniyang buhok. Then she wrapped her arms around me.
The fear...the desperation to find someone else in the midst of horror...
I can feel them through her embrace.
"A nightmare?"
The embrace tightened. "A—ayoko na kuya ng ganito...lagi ko silang nakikita...! Those...those monsters...ayoko ng matulog!"
"Sherry, monsters are not real—"
"But fear is real, kuya!" She cried. "This...this is real...Believe me!"
"Alright. Alright. I believe you. Just calm down. I will stay here until you fall asleep. Ayos ba iyon?"
That's what she always wants whenever she wakes up from her nightmares. She always needs someone beside her.
Hindi raw kasi niya kayang matulog nang magisa pagkatapos makita ang mga halimaw sa kaniyang panaginip.
