Ship: Katsuki x Izuku,
---------------------------
Includes: angst, death, soft bkdk, fantasy setting.
---------------------------
Izuku...was acting odd, Katsuki deduced. In the past few months, his husband has been, undoubtedly, odd. Pausing in conversations, mid-walk, or halfway through a task, Izuku looked empty. Katsuki could tell something was off with his husband, but Izuku still smiled. He still made sure to tend to the gardens, singing softly to the flowers. What was even weirder was how the second Izuku was out of sight; the flowers would wilt and shrivel up so quick, Katsuki would blink, and they'd be dead. When Izuku slept, the man was usually a light sleeper, but now Izuku slept like the dead, body cold, heartbeat slow against his fingers, skin pale.
He looked dead.
When the sky got dark, Izuku was out, and when the sun was up, Izuku awoke. He was impossible to wake up before then, even with magic-infused explosions from katsuki's hands popping off near his ears.
One day, Izuku was still asleep as it neared noon, and Katsuiki had a hunch. Carefully peeling the covers off, and hiking up Izuku's long sleep shirt, Katsuki's heart stuttered to a halt at the searing black fissures and cracks pulsing in his husband's back. Katsuki shakily placed his husband's sleep shirt back down, placing the covers back over the sleeping lump before walking out of the room.
When Izuku awoke, he didn't tell his oblivious husband a thing. Katsuki knew that Izuku couldn't feel many things when it came to pain, nerves shot to hell in many places, feeling lost in fingertips and toes. He knew his husband would be in immense pain if his nerves weren't shot to hell. But he wasn't. But Katsuki could see the toll it was taking on his husband, and his /own/ body was starting to get affected. Katsuki knew he only had one choice.
Death.
-
Izuku hummed softly as Katsuki laid against him, a solemn look on his face. He didn't know what was bothering Kacchan, but the blond has simply said he'd tell him when he was ready. Izuku backed down after down, respecting his husband's boundaries and not pressing him for more on the matter, knowing his husband would come around eventually. The blond had spent more time in their potion and magic room, banning Izuku from coming in.
Izuku was a little upset he couldn't practice his spells, but respected Katsuki's wishes. Although it freed up more time for him to read up on some of his mother's old grimoires, filled with new and exciting spells he'd love to try! Well, once Kacchan lets him back into the potion room. Shifting, Katsuki kissed his cheek before walking into the potion room, leaving Izuku to his mother's grimoires, quietly closing the door behind him.
-
Katsuki stared at the charmed dagger, ornate green and gold accents carved into the hilt of the dagger. Carefully dragging two calloused fingers down the hilt, Katsuki's eyes welled with traitorous tears. Hands clenching into fists, he pushed those emotions away. His heart was cracking at the thought of what would happen tonight, just as the moon started to rise. He wasn't ready, of course, he wasn't!
For god's sake, he was about to drive a dagger through his husband's cursed and corrupted heart! It'd put an end to Izuku's suffering, knowing his soul lays heavy and chained in Izuku, suffering slowly. He knows his husband, his love for the past sixteen years, was quietly suffering. He still remembers he had asked Izuku to date him, hardly a week into the double digits, at age ten, screaming his confession like the emotionally constipated dumbass he was.
He still remembers how Izuku's face lit up, screaming a joyous "YES" before giving him an awkward smooch on the cheek. He still fondly looks back at the memories, although not when he's plotting his husband's murder. Sniffling softly, Katsuki carefully wraps the charmed dagger with a piece of silk cloth, tucking it into his pocket.
Tonight was the last time Izuku suffered.
-
Izuku stared up at the moon, humming softly. He felt oddly at peace tonight, mind no longer fuzzy or blank. He felt full of life for once. Their bedroom door opened with a loud, echoing creek. They really needed to oil the hinges. Turning, Katsuki strode up to him, cupping his cheeks suddenly. "Izuku," Katsuki whispered, Izuku's eyes widening as he choked softly. "Y-Yes?" Izuku whispered, blinking at his husband.
"Do you love me?" Katsuki asked, stroking under his eyes, feeling the tender dark bags under his eyes. Izuku choked back a squeak in the back of his throat, nodding. "O-Of course I love you, Kacchan, I wouldn't have married you if I didn't," Izuku pouted, making Katsuki's eyes well with tears. "Do you trust me?" The blond whispered, one hand falling from Izuku's cheek.
Izuku nodded confidently, "I trust Kacchan-" Before Izuku could fully finish his sentence, a searing pain encased his entire body. Looking down, Izuku took in Katsuki's hand, holding a dagger plunged deep into his chest, right into his heart. Looking back up, larger fissures and cracks broke against Izuku's skin, making the man whimper. Katsuki choked a sob at the pitiful sound as Izuku's hand weakly grasped his arms.
"K-Kacchan-? W-Why-" Izuku choked as a trail of black blood escaped his lips, running down his cheek. "Hu-hurts-" Izuku whispered as tears fell down Katsuki's cheeks. "I-I know baby, your suffering I don't want you to suffer anymore," Katsuki whispered as Izuku crumple to the ground, Katsuki carefully cushioning his descent to the floor.
Keeping a steady hold on the dagger dispelling the curse from Izuku's body, the magic-infused with the dagger killing the curse rapidly as it attacks Izuku's body, keeping him alive to try and keep Izuku's body as its host body. Katsuki watched Izuku whine and hiss in pain as larger fissures trailed up his neck and arms, black sludge pooling from the wounds, showing the curse wasn't winning the battle. "I'm so sorry, baby..."
Katsuki whispered, placing Izuku and his forehead together, tears falling from Katsuki's closed eyes. "I didn't want you to waste away...I'm so sorry-" Katsuki choked back another sob as Izuku whined in pain, fingers seizing up with the pain rolling through his body. "It-It's okay...I forgive Kacchan," Izuku whispered as he sat up straight, Katsuki starting at Izuku, now illuminated in the moonlight.
A wide, kind smile split Izuku's soft lips, eyes crinkling with love, "Because I l-love Kacchan!" A large crack broke apart Izuku's face as his body melted into ashes. Katsuki's eyes widened, throat convulsing with a screamed sob, collapsing. "IZUKU! I'M SO SORRY," He wailed, hugging himself as he laid there, sobbing into the early morning.
On Izuku's death anniversary, the fauna seemed to be more active every year, a white stag disappearing into the forest at nightfall, glowing green eyes softening.
