RULE ONE: DON'T COMMENT ON YOUR GIRLFRIEND'S ZITS

I stifle a laugh as Dustin's slightly more annoyed voice comes through Mike's Walkie. We're sitting outside the back door of his house, waiting for the sounds of a car to come into the driveway.

'This is Gold Leader, returning to base. Do you copy? Over.'

Mike holds the Walkie closer to his ear.

'I feel kind of bad for him,' I say with a sigh. 'Should we-'

'No!' Lucas says. 'for the fifth time, Y/N, we can't bail on the prank!'

'Fine,' I say, holding my hands up. 'But when he attacks you or something, don't come crying to me.'

Lucas rolls his eyes. 'He's not going to attack me.'

'This is Gold Leader, returning to base. Do you copy? Over.'

El glances at me. 'I have to ask you something.'

'Right now?' I ask.

'Later,' El replies.

'I repeat: This is Gold Leader, returning to base. Do you copy? Over.'

'Poor Dustin,' Will sighs, as I lean my head on his shoulder.

'I repeat: This is goddamn Gold Leader-' He cuts himself off.

'We should go in now,' Mike says. 'They're almost here.'

'Okay,' Lucas holds up the spare key that Mrs. Henderson lent us. Max grabs the sign from the ground, and Mike takes all of the kazoos.

We sneak in through the back door, stopping behind the living room wall.

'Maybe try them again after you're done unpacking,' Mrs. Henderson's voice suggests to Dustin as their footsteps come along the kitchen. 'I'm sure they'll answer.'

'Yeah, whatever,' Dustin's tone clearly says he's annoyed. His footsteps fade all the way into his bedroom and I can hear his muffled voice- 'At least someone's happy I'm home.'

'Is he talking to the turtle?' El mouths, raising her eyebrows.

I shrug.

'El, do it now,' Mike whispers. She closes her eyes.

A few seconds later, the distant sounds of robotic whirring start coming closer.

'It's just a dream. You're dreaming.' Dustin says to himself, coming down the hallway.

'Now!' Mike says, nudging her.

The sounds stop.

'Welcome home!' We all shout, jumping out from behind the wall. Dustin screams loudly as the we blow into the party noise makers. He's holding up a can of something-

'AAAAAAAAAAH,' Lucas's high pitched screams echo through the house.

And that was the day that Dustin sprayed his best friend with hairspray. In the face.

It's hard to stop laughing when your boyfriend is losing it right next to you. Lucas glares at Will.

'Okay but that was a little funny,' I say between choking on my own breath.

'Not funny,' Lucas sticks his head under the sink again.

'Better?' Max asks him, also trying to hold in her own laughter.

'Still stings.' Lucas complains, pulling back from the stream of water. He frowns, leaning closer to Max. 'Is that a new zit?'

'What is wrong with you?' Max shakes her head, pushing him back under the tap.

'I was just asking!' He screams.

'- the Forever Clock.' Dustin's saying when Will and I go to see what Mike and El are up to. 'All right? Powered by wind. Very useful in the apocalypse.' He nods at us. 'Then, I give you...the Slammer.' Dustin holds up his vibrating hammer, chuckling. 'Pretty neat, huh?' He turns to a giant duffle bag. 'But this...this is my masterpiece. I would like you to meet..Cerebro.'

He dramatically unzips the duffel bag.

'What exactly are we looking at here?' Mike asks, tilting his head to the side.

'An unassembled one-of-a-kind battery-powered radio tower.'

'So, it's a... a ham radio.' Will says.

'The Cadillac of ham radios.' Dustin's eyes light up. 'This baby carries a crystal-clear connection over vast distances. I'm talking North Pole to South. I can talk to my girlfriend whenever and wherever I choose.'

'Girlfriend?'
