I FEEL FEAR FOR THE VERY LAST TIME

The next ten minutes are a flurry of last second preparations for the expected attack. The windows and doors of Hopper's cabin get boarded up and furniture is pushed in front of any openings.

Jonathan and Nancy push the red couch up against the front door.

Mike and Max push the bookshelf against the other door.

Nancy grabs a gun.

Jonathan takes an axe from outside.

Obviously El and I only have our minds as weapons.

Though it would be nice to have a gun sometime.

That sounded quite dark.

'Hey, get away from the windows,' Nancy commands. We all crowd in the center of the room, El and I at the front of the group.

'It's close,' Will mutters, briefly squeezing my hand before dropping it. I give him a last glance before turning back to the door.

The lights flicker, then stop.

There's a faint tinkling sound, as the plates in the kitchen rattle in the dish drainer.

'Where'd it go?' Max breathes.

It seems like nothing's going to happen, and then it happens all at once.

A long tentacle blasts through the window. Jonathan comes forwards with the axe, hacking away at it.

'Holy shit,' Mike gasps, jumping back as the slimy limb whacks Jonathan off to the side. He slams into the wall with a faint thud, but there's no time to worry about that-

Nancy fires bullet after bullet at the thing. It screeches, reeling back slightly.

And then of course, like your typical horror movie, she runs out of bullets.

'Nancy, move!' I yell, stepping forward. Nancy jumps off to the side as I blast the thing with blue light, making it momentarily recoil. Another blast sends the end piece flying at the wall with a sickening squelch.

The rest of the tentacle recoils back through the window. I wipe my nose quickly, glancing around.

'Is it-' Before the words even leave Jonathan's mouth a third and fourth tentacle come through. El raises both her arms, narrowing her eyes. The limbs flail, falling to the ground as she rips them out.

I concentrate with all my might, willing myself to change form.

'Holy shi-' Max gasps.

I rear up on my hind legs, forcing myself to keep bear form. It's one I don't do, like ever, because there's never been a need to.

The Mind Flayer roars, sending yet another limb through the wall, this time it grabs onto El's leg, pulling her upwards. She screams and I can faintly hear Mike yelling in the background. They grab both her arms as I leap at the slimy thing, tearing my claws into it and ripping it off of her. El gasps in pain, holding onto her leg as I change back.

El's nose is bleeding profusely and trickles of blood are beginning to show just inside her ears.

I kneel on the ground, breathing heavily.

But I have to be fine.

Three more Mind Flayer extremities fly towards me and El, who raises a hand weakly to stop them. Her face clouds with determination, hobbling weakly to her feet.

I throw my arms outwards, sending random bolts of energy in all different directions. The energy begins to glow brighter and brighter, shooting itself at the tentacles. With a loud crackle, the remaining blue light collects in the center of the room.

The moment I hesitate, the Mind Flayer sends another tentacle in. It wraps around my arm, throwing me against the wall. I slam into the wood, landing hard on the ground.

'Y/N! Y/N!' Voices swim in the background of my brain and my vision is hazy. I can see Will run towards me.

The pain in my arm increases, overtaking anything I could possibly feel in my back or other limbs right now.

Out of my blurry vision, I see El raise her arms slowly. The blue energy hovers in the room and El lowers her head, sending it out the window at the Mind Flayer who lets out a loud screech.

'El!' Mike shouts, running towards her. 'El! El, you okay?'

'Y/N, come on!' Will urges, grabbing my still good arm. He half lifts me to my feet, helping me limp across the room.

'Go, go, go!' Nancy yells, as we hurry out the door. 'Come on, come on, go!'

We pile into the car, El leaning heavily against Mike. I glance down at my arm, dizziness taking over me. The injury is deep, but not only that, it seems to be moving. Or maybe I'm just going insane.

'Where are we going?' Max asks, not bothering to buckle her seatbelt. She looks over at El and I.

'Just trust me,' Nancy says, turning the key in the ignition.

The car roars to life and we're off, to who knows where.
