WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM FRIENDS

'The movies?' Lucas raises his eyebrows as he pushes his huge shopping cart of stolen goods. He  claims that fireworks are going to help us get rid of the Mind Flayer. 'Dustin's so freaked out about the gate, he decides to go watch a movie? Yeah, makes total sense.'

'You're positive he said "gate" and not "great"?' Max suggests.

'Yeah, like, "This movie I'm watching is great."' Lucas says.

'Sounded like "gate."' El points out.

'Which would explain how the Mind Flayer's still alive,' Mike adds.

'Yeah, we just have to shut it again,' I roll my eyes. 'Easy peasy.'

'Then the monster dies,' Mike says, ignoring my sarcasm.

'But if not, we always have Lucas' fireworks,' Max says in a falsely cheerful voice.

'Keep mocking my plan, Max,' Lucas says. 'Keep mocking it. I wanna hear you say it again,
because you keep doubting me. You keep doubting me!'

'Ridiculous,' Max says.

'Will?' Lucas turns to him. 'We're gonna prove 'em wrong, right?'

Will ignores him.

'You good, Y/n?' He asks, gently taking my hand. 'You look pale.'

'I'm always pale,' I joke.

_

Just like Dustin said, there was a group of evil Russians waiting for us in the mall. Or at least that's what Mike thought he said. I suppose it could have been medieval cushions waiting for us there.

They don't notice us 'cause they're too busy trying to kill our friends, as we sneak up the stairs to stand on the balcony.

El looks at the bright red car, glancing back at me.

I nod in understanding, sending a tiny blue spark down towards the car. It sets off the alarm and the car honks loudly.

I hear one of the Russians mutter to himself as they all turn around simultaneously.

'Now,' I whisper.

El throws her hands outwards and the car goes flying, knocking the men off their feet and sending them sprawling in all different directions.

The other group stand up slowly, revealing Dustin, Steve, Erica, and Robin.

'You flung that thing like a Hot Wheel!' Dustin cackles, running forwards to meet us.

'Lucas?' Erica gasps.

'What are you doing here?' Lucas's eyes widen at the sight of his sister.

'Ask them. It's their fault,' she hooks a thumb towards Steve and Robin.

'True, yeah,' Steve runs a hand through his hair. 'Totally true. It's absolutely our fault.'

'I don't understand what happened to that car,' Robin says, walking forwards.

'El and Y/N have superpowers,' Dustin says.

'I'm sorry?' Robin does a double take.

'Superpowers.' Steve repeats. 'She threw it with her mind. C'mon, catch up,' he shakes his head.

'That's El?' Erica says, looking at me.

'No, she's El,' I say, pointing at the girl next to me.

'Who's El?' Robin says, doing a full spin around.

'I'm sorry, who are you?' Nancy looks at Robin.

'I'm Robin. I work with Steve,' Robin says.

'She cracked the top secret code,' Dustin explains.

'Yeah, which is how we found out about the Russians,' Steve says.

'Russians?' Jonathan's eyebrows shoot up. 'Wait, what Russians?'

'The Russians!' Steve gestures towards the motionless men with guns.
