thanks for 17k! I love you guys💕

-Grace's POV-

"Grace?" I hear. My breath catches. That was Luke's voice. No, it's just my imagination. I can't get my hopes up.

I slowly lift my head, and Amelia is lying on he ground, unconscious, blood pooling around her. I jump up and hug Luke with all the strength I have. He's alive.

But how?

"How, did she, uh-" Luke turns his head, and I follow his gaze. Chase is standing there, gun in hand. "Chase? But how did you... When did you get here?"

Chase slowly walks our way, putting the gun on safety. "I live down the street. I was taking my dog on a walk, and I saw you guys. I ran back inside and got my dad's pistol. We've went to the shooting range every Saturday for as long as I can remember, so I'm a pretty good shot. I've just never shot at anything but a target, though." He looks very upset. I probably would be too if I just shot, and probably killed, someone.

I didn't quiet know what to say, so I settled for, "Thanks."

He nods, "Yeah." He keeps staring at Amelia, a look I can't quite describe dancing on his face.

I look at Luke, and he nods. I walk over to Chase and put my arm around him. "You had to, Chase. She wasn't right; she was going to kill Luke, and she has already killed three others and shot two. You did exactly what you needed to do." He nods, but doesn't say anything.

The sirens that were in the distance started to get closer. Detective Mason stepped out of a cop car, driven by an officer I had never seen before. She saw Amelia on the ground and Chase holding the gun, and confused swept over her face.

"What...?" She looks at all of us. 3 paramedics rush out of the back of an ambulance to Amelia. They pick her up and carry her back. They turn on he sirens and rush into the direction of the hospital.

"Amelia was holding us at gun point. Chase saw us and ran back to his house to get his father's gun. He got back and shot Amelia." I lean in a little closer so that only Detective Mason can hear me, "He's pretty shaken up about it."

The detective nods her head, "Okay, we are going to need all of you to come down to the station to give a statement. Don't worry, Chase, nothing will happen to you."

*

"So, what happened?" Detective Mason asks me. I'm sitting across from her; my statement is being recorded.

"After we left the station and got to are house, me and Luke were walking up to our driveway on the sidewalk. Amelia came out of the bushes and..." I give a full recap of my story. Luke and Chase will have to the same, I know. If there are any holes in our testimonies, Amelia, if she is even alive, and her lawyer could figure out a way to get less, or even no, jail time.

After everyone is finished, Detective Mason has a gather in her office. Before she can even say anything, I ask, "Is she dead?"

Detective Mason nods, ask if she knew I was going to ask, and locks eyes with me. "I don't know. I'm sorry. I haven't had any contact with the paramedics on the scene or the hospital. But, you do know, if she lived, then, from what you told me, there's a very good chance she will plead insanity. She won't get jail time, but she will get help."

I nod. Of course I want justice for what's been done, but I also know that, if she is insane, she didn't even really realize what she was doing.

When we get home, the boys are totally freaked out. We were a little preoccupied to give a phone call and they hadn't been able to get ahold of us.

Calum runs up (well, as fast as he can) and wraps his arms around me, almost suffocating me.

"Where have you been?"

"Can I tell you later? Or maybe have Luke tell you? Emilee.... she" Calum understands what I'm trying to say. He nods to tell me I can go on. "I just really need to be alone right now."

"Okay, are you sure?" I nod, and he kisses the top of my forehead.

I trudge up the stairs and open my door. I had spent so much time in this room, with my best friends. Now, they are all gone. I go to my closet and pull out some photo albums. I curl into bed, flipping through the pages, tears dotting each one. I slowly fall asleep, clutching my memories.
