"I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead; I lift my lids and all is born again. I think I made you up inside my head"

It's times like these where I wish I had been born a man. Maybe then I would know what the hell goes on inside their heads.

"Alright Soda, now move it just to the left over there—no your other left!" Steve ordered, the water swishing out of the kiddie pool they were trying to move.

Steve and Soda were attempting to move an old kiddie pool they found in the garage. And the entire reason for it was absolutely ridiculous, and dare I say: dumb.

Their plan was to stand on top of Darry's old truck and do a back flip off it right into the pool of water. Darry was away at work, so in their minds this was the perfect festivity for a warm summer evening.

When they explained their idea to me with upmost confidence my initial reaction was to laugh. But all that came out of my mouth was: "What the hell is wrong with you two."

But of course, they shrugged off any criticism they had received, deciding to do the ridiculous stunt anyway. Me, Two Bit, Ponyboy, and Johnny were simply standing outside in the warm July heat, waiting for them to do it so we could just get it all over with. Steve and Soda being the attention whores they are forced everyone to come outside to watch them.

I rubbed my temple, the sun rays harshly hitting onto my face with not the slightest bit of empathy.

"You're going to crack your heads open." I stated, hoping maybe that would bring some sense into them.

"An how do you know that ain't bullshit." Soda retorted, heaving out grunts as he adjusted the kiddie pool that was now filled to the brim with water.

"I know because I have common sense." I said, trying to reason with their pitiful brains and ideas.

But Soda and Steve refused to hear anyone else out, for they were dead set on their little plan.

"On three..."

I suppose this is what complete and utter boredom does to a person in the midst of summer.

And before we could even all comprehend this situation, they made their descent off of the truck into the small pool. Cheers and applause caused a miniature eruption among us all, Sodapop and Steve adoring the current validation.

Miraculously, they didn't crack any of their heads open, nor did they have any larger injuries. I swear the gods must be smiling down at those two boys.

A brisk breeze flew past us, making its mark by causing my shoulders to shiver immensely. It would be dark before I knew it, and it was time I start heading back to Kristy's house. I checked my watch, peering into the circular clock on my wrist.

6:36

But I still had some time before the clock caught on to my tricks, leaving me to do what I haven't done in quite sometime, and that is ignore the premise of time.

Of course I wouldn't really be ignoring the current date, my future plans are always set in stone. My eyes swept over the group in a relaxed stated , leaving me to suppress the smallest smile in this simple, purely playful moment in time.

However, the littlest thing appeared to have caught my eye. This doesn't happen all of the time, but I have my moments where I can recognize the little things. But this, this wasn't a "little thing." Johnny Cade had a deep scar 0n his wrist, a scar that he was trying so desperately to hide with the cuff of his denim jean jacket.

I tried to the best of my ability not to mention it. I know Johnny dislikes when people make too big a deal out of things, mostly when it comes to himself.
