Ember POV
I started to count the drips leaking from the pipe over an hour ago. I lost count many times because I zoned out and started thinking about pizza. There is this pizza shop down the road from our house back in New York and it was basically dough with greasy cheese loaded on top of it.
It had to be one of the most disgusting places I have ever been to but we always ended up there when I was super young when we couldn't afford the overly priced fancy places. Now, even though we can afford much better food we always go there for my birthday to celebrate.
If I'm correct my birthday is this week. The first time in eighteen years where we miss our tradition, where I miss my birthday and I couldn't even say the food they have given me is better than the pizza.
When the drip hits the puddle once more I curse myself out for losing focus again. It shouldn't be this hard should it?
I sigh and lay my head back against the wall remembering a moment of peace with Mattheo, when we last spent the night together when I thought he cared for me the same way I did him.
I close my eyes and soon fall asleep, scared of what is beyond it.
(Flashback)
"It's not hard." Mattheo shakes his head and places his quill down beside the book.
"Yes it is. This is worse than Algebra." Mattheo looks at Ember weirdly, Algebra? "What would you do if your kids ask for help? Would you explain it the way your explaining it to me? I'm like a five year old."
"Your not a five year old, and my kids wouldn't ask for help. They would already be smart." He smiles mockingly pushing his notebook closer to her.
This isn't how Ember wanted to spend her evening but she had to do her homework and Mattheo happened to be in the library when she needed help.
Ember notices Quinn, a young Ravenclaw walking by and when he sees her he blushes and walks faster to the door.
Mattheo notices and spins the quill in his hand with a goofy grin on his face. He looks at the door and then at Ember going back and forth so many times Embers gets dissy just watching him.
Mattheo gasps "have you been shagging a first year?" Ember looks up from her book shocked and narrows her eyes "I didn't know you were into younger gentlemen, how dare I get in the way of that."
"Mattheo." Ember warns writing the last thing down and closing up her books.
"Oh! Here comes another, although he doesn't really look like your type, second year? I'm thinking too old."
"Mattheo!" Ember shivers in disgust and jogs out of the library trying to get away. Matteo runs and catches up with her, walking the halls back to the Slytherin common room.
"Hey, you remember that spot where we used to make out in the scary hallway?" He asks taking her books and carrying them. Why would she carry them when he can?
Ember cringes "mhm."
"Saw some third years going at it. God." He groans "they looked like dying frogs trying to get at the flies in each others mouths before time runs out."
Ember laughs and turns a corner spotting the common room "maybe it was their first time."
"They might not get a second time if they keep choking eachother with their tongues." Mattheo sticks out his tongue and leans forward in Embers face.
