Nini was in her kitchen, cooking her favorite meal for dinner. Chicken alfredo. It had been a long, rough day for her, and she just needed a relaxing night to destress. But the weather had other plans. She was cooking the chicken in a pan on the stove when her TV starts making a crazy and obnoxious beeping. She sets the spatula down, running to her living room to see what's going on.

"Breaking news here in Salt Lake City tonight. A major hurricane is currently heading our way, expecting to be category 5 once it hits. Officers and weather reporters suggest you stay in a safe spot inside your house.", the anchor speaks.

"Oh my gosh...", Nini breathes out as she continues watching.

The TV switches to a news reporter who is covering the hurricane and Nini quickly takes a seat on her couch to listen.

"Hi Mark. Weather conditions here in Salt Lake are looking pretty fine right now, but that's all about to change in the matter of a couple of hours. Hurricane Isla is expected to hit here around 10pm tonight and last through morning. Tornados are very likely to be occurring, so officers are suggesting to find that safe spot and stay put throughout the storm.", the lady finishes.

Nini blankly stares at the TV, her heart beginning to race as she listens to the possible consequences from the storm. No power? Flooding? Tornados? As the news channel switches to talk about something else, Nini hears her phone buzz. She picks it up, smiling at the notification.

Ricky's been her best friend since kindergarten. And recently, she's developed new feelings for him. Strong feelings. She's fantasized multiple times about kissing him, dating him...basically all of the above. But she isn't sure how he feels towards her, so she had to push those feelings aside.

{An hour later; 9pm}

Nini was pacing back and forth in her living room as the TV plays, talking about how the hurricane was nearing Salt Lake. She runs her hands through her hair as thoughts flood her head.

"What am I gonna do if this house gets ripped apart? If it starts flooding? If a tornado comes straight through? Oh my gosh...", she talks to herself.

As she pauses for a second to listen to the TV, she hears a faint knock on her door. She furrows her brows as she walks over, looking through the peephole. She twists the handle, revealing the curly haired boy.

"Ricky?!", Nini exclaims.

"That's me.", he smiles, stepping inside.

"What're you doing here?", Nini asks.

He gives her a look of 'seriously?' before speaking, "Neens, I know you. You get major anxiety when storms like this happen. I'd be crazy if I left you alone for it, c'mon now."

Nina had to prevent herself from blushing hard and smiling even harder. She just gives him a soft look, smiling.

"Thanks Ricky"

"Anyways, I'm gonna run out to the store real quick...I'll grab a few things for us just in case. You okay here for like 30 minutes?", Ricky asks.

Nini nods, "Mhm...just...be careful. It's supposed to hit soon."

"I will don't worry.", he smiles back as he leaves the house.

{10:00}

Nini was anxiously fidgeting with her hands as she waited for Ricky's arrival. It's been over thirty minutes and he still hadn't arrived. She couldn't help but wonder if something happened to him. Her anxiety began to increase as she began to hear rain drops hit the rooftop and windows. She began to hear light gusts of wind outside. And she looked back on her weather radar to see the hurricane moving more towards Salt Lake. Her leg bounced up and down as she kept checking the door, hoping to see that mess of curls walk through.
