"Here catch!", Nini chuckles, tossing a grape at Ricky.

"Hey!", he laughs, picking it off his shirt.

"I said catch...", she jokes, "Not...let it fall on you and then complain?"

"You're so annoying.", he chuckles, plopping the grape into his mouth.

Nini sighs with a smile, "Yeah but it's clear ya like me since we're sitting here having picnic...on a Saturday."

"Maybe I've made a mistake...", he contemplates, rubbing his chin and staring up into the sky.

Nini fake gasps and chucks another grape in his face, "Wrong answer. One more attempt."

Nini and Ricky have been best friends since...well since they were born. They're two peas in a pod and they can't ever be separated. Where one goes...the other closely follows. Nini knew all the complications Ricky's family had and so Nini's house and parents became a second home to Ricky. He'd show up on their doorstep at age 5, wanting to come inside because he couldn't stand the yelling.

The only thing Nini didn't know yet...was that after 17 years of Ricky's life...his parents are talking about getting a divorce. Even though they've treated Ricky horribly and they've never been there for him, he was disappointed about it because after all they are his parents and now one of them would be leaving.

"Hey you okay?", Nini asks, poking his shoulder.

Ricky clears his throat, "Oh uh- yeah."

"Come on...you can tell me if something's bothering you.", Nini pesters.

"I'm fine, Neens. I promise.", Ricky smiles.

"Well...still. If you need cheering up...I brought you something you're going to love!", she exclaims.

"And what might that be?", Ricky questions.

Nini takes a container out of her bag and holds it in her hands. She smiles big when looking at Ricky.

"My mom's famous carrot cake!", she cheers, taking the lid off the container, "You're favorite!"

Ricky places his hand over his chest, contently sighing.

"I love you and your mom's.", he chuckles.

Nini hands him his slice and he begins to dig into it. Nini chuckles watching the boy scarf the cake down.

*~*~*~*

Ricky walks through the front door of his house and notices the silence. He looks around, confused.

"Mom? Dad?", he calls out.

"Oh Ricky! Hey...", his mom greets, coming from the kitchen.

"Hi...what're all the boxes for?", Ricky nervously chuckles, looking around.

"Honey...I'm moving to New York.", Lynne breaks the news.

Ricky gulps and goes wide eyed. He blankly stares at his mom and his head jerks when he sees his dad comes into the room.

"I- I thought you weren't signing the papers...for like...five more months?! You guys were going to go- to go get help...counseling!", Ricky exclaims, feeling flustered.

"We tried, Ricky. We're just not meant to be together.", Mike calmly says.

Ricky scoffs and darts up the stairs, entering his bedroom. He slams the door behind him and collapses onto his bed. His tears of sadness and anger begin to pour from his eyes as he punches his bed to release the anger.
