For once in my life, I was starting to feel better. I have been thinking about what Jess said and I want Bryce to pay for what he has done.
Clay
We need to talk! I can't explain it over text. Come to my house.
Me
Ok? I will be right over.
I walk up Clay's driveway and knock on the door. Mrs. Jensen answered the door.
"Hello, I'm here to see Clay." I notice Clay running down the stairs. He runs over to me and grabs my arm practically dragging me up the stairs with him.
"Clay what the hell!" He drags me into his room and closes the door. He hands me a cassette player and headphones.
"Clay, what is this about?"
"Just trust me, please." I put on the headphones and press play.
Hey, it's Hannah. Hannah Baker. That's right. Don't adjust your...whatever device you're hearing this on. It's me, live and in stereo. No return engagements, no encore, and this time, absolutely no requests. Get a snack. Settle in. Because I'm about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended. And if you're listening to this tape you're one of the reasons why. I'm not saying which tape brings you into the story. But fear not, if you received this lovely little box, your name will pop up. I promise.
"What the hell is this Clay?!"
"Hannah left tapes behind, 13 tapes all explaining why she did what she did." I feel hot tears running down my cheeks. I can't believe I didn't know about this. Everything was just starting to feel ok again.
"Have you listened to all of them yet?"
"No, it's so hard to hear her voice again when I know she's gone."
"Can I listen to them first?"
"Ummm yeah sure."
"I'm gonna head back home and listen to them. Thanks for showing these to me." Once I'm home I head straight to my room and lock the door. I listen all through tapes 1 and 2 before I have to stop and take a breather. I knew Hannah had it rough but how did I not see any of this!
