Y/N's Perspective
Phase Quartz Mine, Blizar Prime
Thursday, 19/08/32"Native lifeforms no longer detected. Security walls disarmed." The security system announcers voice rung out through the survey station as the orange borders that locked us in disappeared, granting us access to the outside again. "Thank you, and have a Blazin' Blizar day."
"Phew." The Chief Engineer sighed in relief as she turned to watch the borders disappear for a moment before turning back to her computer. "Okay, minor setback. Gonna take a little longer to decode this message, but you two can definitely use the drill now! J.I.M. will take you there."
Both Rivet and I let out a relieved sigh, regaining our composition again and getting back on the job. We thanked the Chief Engineer for her help and set off for the Drill Platform, guided by J.I.M. He took us back over the lava lake and through the small hill the boarding area for the platform to the Survey Station was in and around to an elevated platform with another dimensional anomaly on it.
"Really, another one of these?" I asked, looking at the large, pulsing purple and black ball of dead space. "Clank, you think you'll be able to deal with this one?" I looked over my shoulder and Clank gave me a thumbs up, so I turned my back to the anomaly and let Clank do his thing, sitting down on the floor in front of it for comfort's sake. Rivet sat down next to me and leaned on me, holding my hand and smiling up at me, letting out a very soft, almost unnoticeable purr as she did.
'There it is again, that funny feeling~' I thought to myself as my heart fluttered in my chest and I wrapped an arm around Riv, enjoying her silent company and not worrying about anything around us for a few wonderful minutes until the dimensional anomaly cleared and Clank joined us in reality again.
"There, another anomaly fixed..." He said as we stood up, looking at the equipment that was on the other side. A large water pipe loomed in front of us, a cog on the other side of the platform, presumably to unblock the pipe when the valve closed.
"Now we can deal with the clog in this pipe." Rivet said, running up to the cog and jamming her hammer into the cog and rotating it, opening the closed valve inside the pipe and allowing the water to flow freely through the pipe again.
"Alright, now we can use the elevator over there, right?" I asked as we walked towards it.
"Indeed. That will lead us to the drill platform where we can finally get what we came here for." Clank said as we stepped into the elevator, the platform beginning to travel up.
"Alright, one step closer. Now we just gotta use the drill, get the phase quartz we need and repair the Dimensionator!" I looked at Rivet and smiled, excited to get this mission wrapped up so we could have a little down-time.
Clank cleared his 'throat' to get our attention as Rivet leaned over and kissed me on the cheek. "In case I do not get another chance to say it, thank you."
"Hey, don't get mushy on us now Bolts, we aren't finished yet." The lift arrived at its destination and we stepped off the platform, instantly being greeted by more Vroom Goons.
"Oh great, the bro squad is back." Rivet groaned, pulling out the burst pistol and opening fire on the Vroom Goon that blocked our way to the drill platform while I lobbed Shatterbombs at him.
"Hey! Watch those grenades!" He yelled as one blew up on his right wing, sending him and his Megacorp hoverbike spinning uncontrollably into the lava.
"You know, we've still got no leads on what happened to your dimension's Blizar--" I said, stepping up to the cart rail that led to the drill platform and jumping onto it, grinding the rail all the way to the drill platform with Rivet close behind.
"We'll find out soon. Then we can stop it from happening in this dimension." Rivet said as we jumped from rail to rail, making it to the drill platform after a few moments.
"Well, that was more fun than I thought it would be." I looked back at the track with a smile on my face before looking up at the massive drill in front of us.
"Wow. It's been my lifelong dream to operate a drill a hundred times bigger than me." Rivet said, looking up at the drill as well.
"Really?" Clank asked, looking over my shoulder. "That is very specific."
"Specific goals are achievable goals." Rivet shrugged, walking towards the cog that we needed to turn to start the drill up and pulling her hammer out, connecting it and turning the cog, the drill getting to work and extracting the phase quartz we needed. As soon as the drill started, the Chief Engineer jumped on the comms channel.
"Lombax, human, robot! I've got brilliant news!" She announced. I decoded the message from BEYOND! Listen..."
"Finally. Good reception." The Chief Engineer of Rivet's Blizar Prime's voice rang through the comms channel, the message clear and easy to understand now. "Listen: DO NOT TURN ON THE DRILL!" Rivet and I looked at each other, our faces both shocked and worried. "The rifts damaged it; the drill destroyed our Blizar! YOU DONT NEED PHASE QUARTZ THAT BAD!"
"Fuck, we just turned it on!" I yelled, stepping back and looking at the deadly beam of energy the drill was shooting into the planet.
"Oh, uh... TAKE COVER! Lockdown engaged!" The Chief Engineer shouted over the comms, Rivet and I both running for the nearest cover as a Goons-4-Less dropship and a few Vroom Goons rolled in, looking around for us. "I can try a remote shutdown? Oh, boy... ohhhh bad, oh jeez..."
I looked at Rivet and nodded at her as I pulled out a burst pistol. "Right, let's lick some ass!" Rivet giggled and shook her head before quickly shooting down a goon that was getting too close to our position for comfort.
"Y/N, I believe the expression is kick some ass." Clank informed as Rivet and I shot up, opening fire on the Vroom Goons.
"Whatever!" I yelled, swapping to the Negatron Collider and firing it at the dropship. "Mine's better!"
After taking out a few waves of enemies, the Chief Engineer re-appeared on the comms channel. "Our network keeps faltering. I knew I should have upgraded to faster speeds!"
"Fucking great! We're gonna be sucked into the implosion of a planet because the network is too slow!" I groaned, whacking a goon around the head and sending him flying into the drills beam, basically disintegrating his entire body.
"Hey, at least we won't die alone!" Rivet joked, fighting off a small group of goons that were targeting her.
"Y/N! Rivet! Phase Quartz, suspended in the drill beam!" Clank pointed out and we both looked over at the crystal hovering in the drill beam.
"I'll knock it out with my hammer!" Rivet exclaimed, running forward and swinging her hammer into the rock, sending it flying out of the beam. At that very moment, time itself seemed to slow down as the energy stored in the quartz threw Rivet back into her own dimension and Clank and I were left in the intact one, the ground shaking beneath us as more Goons were dropped onto the platform.
"FUCK!" I screamed out, pulling out my hammer and gripping the handle tight. Tears welled up in my eyes as thousands of horrible thoughts of what happened to her raced through my mind, my eyes locked on the approaching goons. I charged at them with a deep red anger in my eyes and proceeded to combo-kill every single one in the pack. "No, no, no, no, no..." I panted heavily and looked up at the drill beam as it continued to shoot into the planet, causing more tremors. "She can't be gone, she can't be-" I tried to push the thought out of my mind and failed, tears pouring down my cheeks like small rivers.
"I- I'm sorry..." The Chief Engineer's voice was thick with remorse and an ounce of detectable guilt, recognisable even over a comms channel.
"She's gone..." I whispered, falling defeatedly to my knees. "Isn't she...?"
A/N: And so, this is where this chapter ends... on a very angsty, kinda depressing sorta cliff-hanger. Not much to say about this one except I got it out way quicker than the last chapter, so see you in the next one!
