Y/n entered the banquet hall quietly. The sound of laughter and conversation rose around him as he walked towards the royal family. They were sitting in the back of the hall at the highest table. He had urgent news to deliver to the king concerning a recent criminal case. He clutched the hilt of his sword tightly as he got closer to the royal table.

"You're majesty," Y/n bowed deeply, "The thief has escaped into the Forest of Elves. We cannot enter without explicit permission from their council. Us knights want to request that you write a letter to their council to ask if we may enter."

The king looked down at him and scoffed, "Why ask? If only one of you enters then we should not run into any problems. Besides, it is just a thief, you will not be needing more than one man to chase him down."

"They still require that we have their permission to enter, your majesty," Y/n stated and kept his head down.

"You go yourself then. I do not want to write a letter and wait for their response. That thief needs to be caught," the king rubbed his face and sighed, "If the council, or whatever they are, has an issue, then point them to me."

Y/n bowed again, "Understood. I shall return with the thief or die serving you."

"Yes yes, now go. Stop wasting my time," the king waved him off.

Y/n bowed one more time before leaving the banquet hall. The hand wrapped around the hilt of his sword was shaking as he went to report to his captain. He wasn't expecting the king to order him to enter the Elven realm. He wasn't able to go against the king's orders, though.

He arrived at the meeting room and bowed before saying, "The king refused to write the letter. He has ordered me to enter the forest myself to capture the thief."

"He ordered that you enter the forest?" the captain repeated with a heavy frown, "This is going to cause us problems. Do you know the rules of the Elven Forest?"

"Yes captain," Y/n let go of his sword and held his hands behind his back, "I was with the group of trainees who trained with the Elven."

"Good, you may survive if you get captured then. Let us hope that those who trained with you are the ones who will try you if brought to their court," the captain sighed and sat down, "Prepare your things and leave as soon as possible then. We will pray for your safe return."

Y/n bowed again, "Thank you captain. As I had told the king, I will either return with the thief or not return at all."

"Alright," the captain stated with a sigh, "We hope to see you with the thief then."

He nodded once then left the meeting room. The armor Y/n was wearing was bulky and loud. He remembered how quiet and graceful the Elven were when he had trained alongside them. Only one Elf stuck out in his memory, though.

Y/n entered his room and pulled out a small chest from under his bed. He pulled the string around his neck up and grabbed the key attached to it gently. He glanced around the room quickly before unlocking the chest. Inside the chest was what looked like a big pile of cloth.

On closer inspection, though, one would realize that the cloth was covering something underneath it. With a quick tug the cloth was thrown onto the bed. Y/n smiled a bit as he looked down at the small armor. His memory of receiving this played in his head as he pulled it out.

He didn't remember the name of the Elf who had gifted him this armor, but he knew it was with good intentions. The young Elf and him had been training together during the duration of Y/n's stay. They would see each other at least twice every day. The young Elf was also someone he knew he could trust if he were to ever return to the Elven Forest. There was a small flame of hope in his chest that he would meet him again.
