Y/n watched as all the Elves above him watched him silently. As he looked around, he caught sight of four suspicious figures. One of which he's seen before. He was confused at first, but the longer he looked, the more obvious it became.

Those four Elves were being regarded similarly to Human royalty. Y/n had always thought that the Elves only had a council, but the more he thought about it, the more it made sense. Who had been signing all those access letters? Everytime he looked at a returned one, it always had one signature on it.

"This case is small, but we are glad that the monarchs could join us today," an Elf wearing sky blue robes said, "You are welcome to give your opinions at any time our royal highnesses."

There was a small nod in response from who Y/n could only assume was their king. Then, the trial began. After a quick announcement of his crimes, they properly started.

"What is your name, Human?" the sky blue Elf asked.

"Y/n L/n," he responded.

"What was your purpose for entering without permission?" the Elf asked.

"My king had tasked me with entering the forest to retrieve a thief who had stolen royal treasure and escaped here," Y/n explained.

"Why did the king not write a letter to us asking for permission to search?" the Elf demanded.

"I cannot give you the answer, sir, for I do not know. We had asked him to write the letter to request access, but he said he would not. I could only assume that he had declined because he was entertaining guests," he explained.

"How do you own this set of armor?" he motioned to Y/n who looked down at his armor.

"I was given armor while training here 14 years ago. I do not remember the Elf who had gifted this to me, though," Y/n's hands started shaking. Why was everyone asking about his armor?

There was a small gasp that ran through the crowd that was quickly silenced by one of the royals standing up and saying, "I wish to participate in this trial."

The Elf in the sky blue robe stroked his chin a few times before saying, "You may, although I am unsure as to what you have to say, your majesty."

"Whether you know what I am going to say matters not. I know who gifted this Human that armor," shock filled not only the crowd, but also Y/n.

"How could you know, your majesty?" the sky blue Elf asked.

"I know because I gifted that armor to Y/n as a farewell gift after the training with the Humans ended. Him and I were training partners," the royal explained, "I request that this trial ends and for Y/n to return with me to the palace."

Another gasp ran through the crowd as the request was placed. Was Y/n's armor that important? He hadn't realized that wearing it would end up saving his trial.

"We may allow it, but," the sky blue Elf paused, "He must still be punished for trespassing."

"Why must we punish this Human when he was acting on orders?" another royal asked, "Should we not be demanding the king for an explanation as to why he thought it to be appropriate to send a soldier here without notice?"

Y/n froze as he heard this. The Elven royals appeared to be more sensible than the Human ones. Hopefully, this would act in his favor.

"Your majesty," the sky blue Elf stated, "We still can't leave the soldier unpunished."

"Our policy is to bring justice to those who deserve it, is it not?" the Elf who gifted the armor asked, "Is this Human not someone who needs justice to be brought to his king?"
