Chapter 7:

 Nicole’s POV:

The world slowly started coming into perspective as my heavy eyelids slowly lifted, the brightness of the room overcoming me. I could hear muffled voices above me as the room slowly shifted into focus. I felt heavy, drugged, and incredibly tired, like I had just been in the deepest sleep of my life. Wait…where was I? My focus was clearer now and I could tell I was in a small room with four white walls. It felt cramped, and I hated small spaces. I groaned softly, which immediately caused the person sitting in the corner to get up, approaching my bedside. Why was I in a bed? I looked down at my arms, and noticed I had three thousand tubes attached to me. Was I in a hospital? The blue nightgown proved my suspicions but my train of thought was caught off by a familiar voice.

“Nicole?” Harry asked in his deep, warm British accent. Wait… I was mad at him. Wasn’t I? But I couldn’t help but get those typical butterflies whenever I was around him. I looked up at him. He looked like he hadn’t slept for days, and his eyes were full of worry. What happened?

“Hi.” I said with a soft smile, hoping it would cheer him up. His lips turned into a slightl smile, a sense of relief overcoming him.

“You scared the crap out of me.” He said with a chuckle, taking my hand into his. I bit my lip, looking up into his eyes.

“W- what happened?” I asked, not entirely sure what I had done to scare the crap out of him. At that moment the door opened and a middle-aged man in a white coat walked in.

“Oh Nicole, you’re up. Fantastic. How are you feeling?” The man asked, scribbling something down on a clipboard. I thought for a second.

“I feel fine, actually. Why am I here?” I asked, as the man looked up.

“Nicole, please give me a list of everything you ate and or drank since you woke up yesterday morning.” I was lost. What day was it? I looked over at Harry and he could tell I was out of it.

“Yesterday you flew into New York.” He reminded me and I nodded. Oh.

“Well I… I…” I trailed off thinking. Now that I think about it I hadn’t eaten anything. Or drank anything for that matter.

“I don’t think I ate or drank anything.” I said softly, and the doctor nodded, putting his pen down.

“Well that explains everything. Nicole, you passed out because you were dehydrated, and the lack of food in your system didn’t help matters much. Please promise me to drink eight glasses of water a day, and eat three times a day. I understand looks are important, but your health is more important. I’ll be back.” The doctor said, stepping out of the room and closing the door behind him.  Harry and I were silent for a few moments, before he decided to break the silence.

“Nicole…why aren’t you eating?” He asked softly, pulling up a chair and sitting down next to me. I panicked.

“I…I forgot. It was a crazy day yesterday.” I managed to say, looking over at him. He smiled ever so slightly.

“I don’t believe that.” Harry usually knew when I was lying, which I guess could be considered both a good and a bad thing. In this case, not so good. I looked down, avoiding his gaze

. “It’s hard putting food into your mouth when you’re competing with Sienna Swanson.” I mumbled, barely audible. But Harry heard. He placed his hand on my cheek, turning my face to face his.

“Nicole. Don’t compare yourself to Sienna, please. You’re perfect just the way you are. I don’t care how you look. I like you for who you are. You’re personality is contagious, and I love that about you. You and I just click. Whenever I’m around you I’m instantly ten thousand times more happy. You make me happy, not Sienna. I wait for your phone calls, not hers. I’m excited to spend time in New York with you , not her. So although she doesn’t know what’s going on, I promise it’ll all work out. Soon. Please just wait it out with me. I’m so close to convincing management to let us go public, and the moment they say yes you’ll never have to hear her name again.  There’s nothing going on between us, you have to believe me.” His eyes were sincere, his face only an inch away from mine. I believed him. Although every sign in the universe told me not to, I believed him. He was silent for a few moments, before looking back up at me.

“Nicole… I lo-“ At that moment the door slammed open and in walked Sarah, my best friend. Harry dropped my hand, leaning back in his chair. My mouth dropped slightly, as I looked between the two of them.

“I called her and invited her to come to New York to keep you company.” He said softly, biting his lip.  He was cautious, like he wasn’t sure if this was the best idea after all.

“Harry called me and told me the situation. He said if I came I’d have to be a maid. But I mean, he offered a free trip and free food… so guess you have a partner in crime, er cleaning now.” Sarah said happily, holding a cup of red Jello in her hand. She spooned a bit out, sticking it in her mouth.

“By the way, the jello here is amazeballs.” I couldn’t help but laugh as I shook my head slightly. The fact that Harry had thought to bring my best friend to New York just for me… it made me realize how much he cared about me. I was a lucky girl.

“Thank you.” I whispered softly into his ear and he smiled, just as his phone vibrated.  He glanced down at his iPhone, his expression changing instantly.

“It’s Sienna isn’t it.” I mumbled and he looked over at me apologetically before answering the phone.

“Hi Sienna.” He said slowly. He sat there silently for a moment as he listened to the other end, his face looking tired and more annoyed as time went on. He sighed after a while.

"Yeah, I understand. I’m sorry doll. Yes, I’ll be at the party tonight. Ok. Yes, I’ll be at the hotel in half an hour. Ok, bye.” He hung up the phone, looking down at me.

“Sienna planned a ‘Welcome to New York’ party for the boys and I tonight. I would invite you to come but you need to rest.” He stated, and I nodded.

“I agree. I’m exhausted.” I said breathlessly.

“I’ll see you tomorrow. We can do whatever you’d like.” He smiled softly. My eyes brightened.

“Can we watch a rom-com?” He laughed as he stood up, bending down to give me a soft peck on the lips. I felt shivers run through my entire body. Why couldn’t it be more than a peck?

“Bye Babe.” He smiled as he opened the door, softly closing it behind him. Sarah slowly pulled the spoon out of her mouth, glancing over at me.

“We’re crashing that party aren’t we.” She said with a sigh.

“You know me too well.” I replied, the corner of my lips turning into a smirk.
