(3rd person's pov) :
The bartender also served their drinks on the table and if it were as usual, the four of them would've raised their glasses toasting to the 'stray dogs'
But this time, it was different. As soon as Ango reveals himself, Dazai starts explaining with his calm voice.
"Although, it is a secret organization that regulates ability users in the country, if they were to enter an all-out war with the Port-Mafia, they wouldn't be able to escape unscathed. Moreover, The Special Ability Department's job is to manage ability users, not terminate them. That is why, they sent you; an agent to infiltrate the mafia and keep an eye on our movements. This was a surefire plan, wasn't it?"
He asked and silence surrounds the bar as Ango chose to remain quiet."Everything went according to the plan, but then Mimic showed up, they planned to enter Japan and it was a troublesome matter for the Special Ability Department. So, the Department ordered their special agent, Ango Sakaguchi to investigate Mimic's movements as a double agent from the Mafia. That is why, you went with the 'Black Special Ops forces' that night. Offcourse they will provide help to you, afterall they are the Department's implementation force. Right?" Emily said as she look at her glass watching the round piece of ice slowly melting away.
Ango slowly pushes up his spectacles and looks at Dazai and Emily.
"For a low salaried government official like me, it was a job entirely above my pay grade.." Ango says.
"So in other words, Ango wasn't a double agent, but a triple agent.." Odasaku said as he took a swig of his drink.
Ango didn't reply and the silence was coming back again.
Letting out a soft sigh, Emily decided to speak up, "Tell us about Mimic!" She questioned keeping her gaze at her glass.
Ango took a breathe before replying, "I heard that Odasaku and Gide traded blows infront of the Art Museum. You have already seen Gide's ability, haven't you?"
"I did." Odasaku responded calmly.
"Even the Special Ability Department cannot do anything about such an ability. We never knew where he exactly is, his location is a mystery. The higher ups are planning to leave the entire matter to the Mafia to handle." Ango replies.
"So, that means.. as long as they let these two organizations fight one another, the Special Ability Department will not have to sacrifice anyone. That's what they are actually planning. Putting up a conflict between the Mafia and the Mimic; killing two birds with one stone huh?" Emily sighs.
"Such a method would be fairly selfish~" Dazai slightly tilts his head, "Even for the Mafia, it would be a hard time to deal with a special ability like that."
Following this, Dazai again turns his eyes to look at Odasaku, "....Offcourse, other than a certain junior member here."
"Both of our abilities can only see into the near future, so I wouldn't have any meaningful advantage over him. Even if we fight and exchange blows, in the end, everything will depend on our fighting and shooting skills." Odasaku said. He knew what Dazai was implying.
A man at whom surprise attacks doesn't work. Bullets, special powers, whatever it is, Gide can evade every single one of them because he could see the future. His ability was a real trouble.
"The unknown variables will matter alot. There's also the singularity of the ability to consider." Ango says as he turns his head to Oda.
"Singularity of the ability?" Odasaku asked.
"When you were using your ability against Gide, didn't something rather unusual happened to you?" Ango asked.
Oda thought for a while and then he replied, "Yeah, it did. I saw many complicated overlapping predictions of the future. It was weird."
"The government has observed that when similar abilities interact with one another, it will result in the loss of control over the user's powers and will cause it to develop in a hard to see, unpredictable direction. The details are still not clear.. it's pretty rare yet troublesome..." Ango halted on his sentence.
Dazai and Emily were quietly hearing him without any expressions on their faces.
While, Ango lets out a sigh as his eyes trailed towards his glass, staring at his drink, "You know.. I am not supposed to reveal these matters. If the Ministry of Internal Affairs' higher ups find out about our meeting here, it will be a big problem." He said, "For the time being, I will have to dissapear."
"Do you really think that Emily and I will let you walk out of here alive?" Dazai spoke up in his cold voice.
The air freezes over and the expression on Ango's face quickly subsides as the two teens were still sitting quietly staring at their glasses.
"Dazai and I am well aware, that the information that we want you to spit out are even thicker than a dictionary. So, don't misunderstand by the thought that I am going to let you leave this place without spilling out." Emily warns.
Dazai's serious face and Emily's warning, it almost drop down the temperature of the room, as if they would kill Ango at any moment now.
Odasaku couldn't help but ask, "Are you two planning to turn this place into a battlefield now?"
Ango doesn't move, his facial expression was frozen after hearing the two of them.
"It's my fault." Ango sighs hopelessly, "I was mistaken. I selfishly believed that maybe, if the four of us would met up like this again, things would go back to normal, back to how they were.."
His words made the minds of the two Executives to be conflicted. Both of them were angry as Emily grips her glass of alcohol almost breaking it, but still they were trying to keep their calm.
Where as, Ango knew how ruthless the Mafia's interrogations were and also that he couldn't escape from Dazai and Emily's carefully laid web, so he quietly sits down to accept their wrath.
"Ango." Dazai quietly calls, "You need to get out of here before Emily and I change our minds."
Ango was taken a back by this. It seemed he wanted to say something, but he swallows his words away as he kept staring at both of them. Even Odasaku was slightly surprised at the two merciless Executives.
"It's alright, we are not upset. Dazai and I already knew that this would happen from the very beginning." Emily said with an unreadable expression.
"I am not sad either. It wouldn't have mattered even if you were with the Special Ability Department, because anything that I wouldn't want to lose is always lost. This is how it's always been for me. Everything worth wanting is lost the moment I obtained it.." Dazai says expressionless and Emily put her gaze at him. This time, her stare was not cold; her eyes softened.
Ango takes a breathe looking at them as he spoke up, "Listen you three, If there ever comes a day, when the Special Ability Department and the Port-Mafia doesn't exist and we all are in positions of greater freedom, I want the four of us to come back here and-----"
"Ango, just stop!" Odasaku cuts him off with a serious tone, "Don't say anything more."
Emily was still holding onto Dazai's shoulder as she slightly squeezes his coat, "Listen Ango, Dazai and my subordinates will be surrounding this area soon. And, I won't be able to keep my cool either if you stay here for another second. So.. just get out of my sight!" She darkly warns staring down with a emotionless face. But her words were strictly inevitable.
Ango slowly stood up from the bar chair without a word. And with listening to the sound of his own footsteps, he quietly walks out of the Bar.
Quiteness surrounds the bar once again. Dazai turns his eyes to look at the spot where Ango left his finished glass and there he notices something else too.
It was the photograph that they took together few days ago.
"In that photo, the Four of them were smiling so happily; even the unexpected ones..."
