Legend foretold of a creature magnificent to the eyes, but suffered in nature who dwelled upon the lands of Lyisolde, in the mountains of Altair, kept himself hidden from the world. Some say it lived for centuries, while others would argue it's been dead that long. No one knew much of it, but believed it was the reason for the darkness overcasting Altair and most of Lyisolde.
Stories have been handed down many generations of the creature's responsibility, but no one held a true understanding if it harnessed such magic to keep the lands prisoned to the night. Scholars studied till their final breath for answers. Even the royalty in the land solicited magical beings of all kinds, seeking council in ridding the world of this curse.
Every attempt faltered, and then lands endured the fate for decades more. The creature, rumored to be called a phoenix, remained a myth to the citizens but accused of their lack of light in the world.
"Why must I be the one to search for it? Can't anyone else be assigned such an impossible task?" The young lady whined to her mother, who collected food from their well-stocked pantry and placed it into a basket and sealed it shut. She peered over at her daughter with kind eyes, wandering her mahogany tresses as if it were drenched in wine. Eyes gray like the sunless sky and casted a cerulean tint. A petite figure, she was with slender hands and well-manicured nails that raised to close her royal blue cloak.
"It must be you. You know why." Her mother spoke low as she approached her. Her delicate hands adjusted the clasp on her cloak. "The world has been waiting for you, and now it's your time. Remember what we taught you. Remember your purpose." She lifted her palm, smiling at the touch of her daughter's palm meeting hers, and leaned in, kissing her daughter's forehead before raising the hood of her cloak over her head. "Use your spells and protect yourself, Soleil." She concluded.
Soleil sighed and nodded to her mother. "I love you mother." She uttered before taking the basket and exiting their small cottage, hidden in rural Altair among the fields. Soleil peered up to the sky, bleak but solemn, and began her journey to the mountains.
When nighttime would catch her, she gathered camp into the forest. Soleil would stare at the stars, whispering wishes on the fallen ones, praying that ones remained in the heavens show her the way to peace for all of Lyisolde. Counting on them to tell her why is it she that must seek this creature. A creature she's been told stories of as a child, the reason for the gloom of their lands. Now she realized those stories were to prepare her for this journey. Stories as they were told, but history they were for the prophecy that will be.
Along her journey, she made friends with the animals whose home she entered. The forest was privy to all likes, and Soleil was acquainted with them as they greeted her. They understood her and knew of her trek to Altair. The animals counted on her as well as the citizens of Lyisolde, for they too suffered from living in these dismal lands.
