Chapter Eight

Tony’s P.O.V

I was up all night working on a more powerful arc reactor that’s more reliable than the one I made in the cave with Sal and Yinsen and I was having trouble putting it in my chest “JARVIS will you call pepper for me” I asked “right away sir.”

“How big are your hands” she gave me a confused look “get down here I need you hey let’s see them show me your hands Oh, wow they are small Very petite, indeed just need your help for a sec.”

“Oh, my God, is that the thing that's keeping you alive” She said terrified “it was It is now an antique” told her “This is what will be keeping me alive for the foreseeable future I’m swapping it up for an upgrade and I’ll need to switch Sal’s over when she gets up.” 

“Sal has one as well” pepper said “Yeah” I said “anyway I just ran into a little speed bump. Speed bump, what does that mean?” She said worried.

“It’s nothing. It's just a little snag there’s an exposed wire under this device and it's contacting the socket wall and causing a little bit of a short its fine” I said reassuring her.

“What do you want me to do?” She asked “Put that on the table over there that is irrelevant” I said taking out the old arc reactor and giving it to her.

“Oh my God!” She said “I want you to reach in, and you're just gonna gently lift the wire out” I told her “is it safe?” She asked “Yeah, it should be fine it’s like Operation” I told her “what you mean, ‘Operation’” she said “it’s just a game, never mind” I said giving up.

“Just gently lift the wire. Okay?” I told her “You know, I don't think that I'm qualified to do this” she said “No, you're fine you’re the most capable, qualified, trustworthy person I've ever met you’re gonna do great. Is it too much of a problem to ask?” I asked trying to reassure her “Okay, okay” She said.

“Oh, there's pus!” She yelled out “it’s not pus. It's an inorganic plasmic discharge from the device, not from my body” I said “it smells!” She said complaining.

“Yeah, it does the copper wire.  The copper wire, you got it?” I asked “Okay, I got it! I got it!” She said “now don't let it touch the sides when you're coming out!” I said and she touched the side’s “owe” I yelled out “that’s what I was trying to tell you before.”

“I'm sorry I'm sorry” pepper said “Okay, now make sure that when you pull it out, you don’t There's a magnet at the end of it!” I said and she pulled the magnet “that was it. You just pulled it out Oh, God Okay, I was not expecting” I said then she tried to put it back in.

“Don’t put it back in! Don't put it back in!” I said “Okay, what do I do?” She asked “What's wrong?”

“Nothing, I'm just going into cardiac arrest 'cause you yanked it out like a trout” I said “What You said it was safe!” She said scarred.

“We gotta hurry. Take this. Take this you gotta switch it out really quickly” I said “Okay, Okay” she said tacking it from me “Tony I’m going to make this okay” she said over and over trying to reassure me “Let’s hope okay, you're gonna attach that to the base plate. Make sure you oww” I yelled.

“Was that so hard? That was fun, right? Here, I got it I got it Here Nice “I said then pepper said “never ever, ever ask me to do anything like that ever again.”

“I don’t have any one but you and Sal but she’s asleep sooo anyway” I said pulling off all the suction caps.

“What do you what me to do with this” Pepper said holding the arc reactor “That? Destroy it. Incinerate it” I said.

“You don't want to keep it?” she said “Pepper, I've been called many things and Nostalgic is not one of them” I said.

“Will that be all, Mr. Stark?” she said “That will be all, Miss Potts” I said and she walked out.

“Hey, Butterfingers, come here. What's all this stuff doing on top of my desk? That's my phone that's a picture of me and my dad that’s a picture of me and my daughter, Right there  in the garbage all that stuff” I said tapping the arc reactor.

 Sally’s P.O.V

I got out of bed completely forgetting I needed crutches and fell “god I wish that would stop happening” I muttered to myself.

I leaned against the wall got my crutches “JARVIS what’s the time?” I asked “its 10:33am”JARVIS said “thanks JARVIS” I said going into my walk in robe to get changed which I found very complicated I changed into a T-shirt and I tried to get on I pair of jeans but with the cast it was impossible so I put on some shorts.

I was sitting on the floor I brushed my hair I then got up using the wall to support me and got my crutches then went into my room and said “JARVIS display all my new e-mails and voice messages” “right away Miss” JARVIS said displaying them on the window “you have 1243 new e mails and 1127 new voice messages I started going throw the ones my friends had sent me then I said “stuff it JARVIS delete all” ‘successfully deleted all Sal’ JARVIS said.

I got out of my room and stood at the top of the staircase with no way to get down without falling “JARVIS call my dad will ya.”

“Hey Sal can you come to the basement I need you for a couple minutes” dad said “I would if I could get down the stairs” I said annoyed “coming” dad said.

Then I could see him walking into the living room “I’m here” I yelled he came back out with mum they walked up the stairs dad picked me up and mum got the crutches.

Dad carried me down to the basement and mum typed in the password and opened the door and dad carried me in dad put me down on the spinney chair and mum leaned the crutches against the door and left.

“So what did you need me for” I asked dad “this” he said picking up an arc reactor of the desk it looked much more advanced than the one I was currently using with double the rotation “I want to swap the arc reactor your currently using for an upgrade” dad said.

“Did you switch yours” I asked “yep pepper did it” he said “oh god how did that go” I asked “oh great got zapped twice she yanked the magnet out so I went to cardiac arrest but its fine” dad said.

“Shirt off” dad said I took my shirt off and dumped it on the floor.

I sat on chair and dad stuck four suction caps to my stomach then my heart rate the arc reactor and a few other details showed up on the monitors behind me I pulled out the old reactor gave it to dad and he placed it on the table I laid back down in the chair then dad put his hand in looking for something.

“What are you looking for” I asked “the copper wire” he said searching around “found it” he said pulling it trying so hard not touch the sides “don’t pull out the magnet” I said.

“I know what I’m doing” he said as he touched the side “oww” yelled god did that hurt “you did that on purpose” I accused “did not” he said back “did” “didn’t” “did” “whatever” dad said and zapped me again “OWWW” I yelled.

Dad then pulled out the copper wire then got the new arc of his desk came back over and put in the new reactor and I got zapped.

“OWW” I yelled and sat up I pulled of all the suction caps and punched dad in the soldier "hey" he yelled "thats for zapping me."

Dad chucked me my shirt I put it on “see knew what I was doing” dad said “only zapped me three bloody times” I said pissed. “Ok know I won’t to make a cast so I can actually walk” I said “already done” dad said pointing to the metal cast on his desk.

Dad had taken off my cast and put the metal cast on I got up and didn’t fall “thankyou” I said hugging him “I’m going to go see Rhodey you coming” he said.

“Sure why not, when we going” I asked “now” dad said getting into STARK 4.
