Olivia Baker
"Mom, I honestly do not want to argue right now..." Olivia heaved a big sigh as she listened to her mother on the phone.
"We haven't seen you since Jordan's party and that was three weeks ago! You're not failing in your classes are you?! Your father and I paid good money for you to go to that school and-" Laura continued until Olivia interrupted.
"Mom, I'm not failing my classes! I wouldn't dare give you and Dad another reason to be discontent with me!" Olivia stated matter of fact.
"Olivia-"
"I don't want to continuously hear how much I am a disappointment to you. I need to study, I have finals coming up. Bye!" Olivia hung up the phone and tossed it on her dresser.
She sat on her bed, inching closer toward the headboard. Olivia reached for her sketch book on her night stand, glossing through her designs.
"Olivia?" Her roommate, Layla, softly knocked on her door.
"Come in" Olivia said, placing her sketch book back onto her night stand.
"I didn't want to interrupt your phone call, but you have a surprise waiting for you on our dining table" Layla smiled, watching as Olivia's eyebrows furrowed.
Olivia removed herself from her bed, following Layla into their dining room.
"Listen, Layla. You are a great roommate, I wouldn't have it any other way. But please tell me you didn't attempt to make pumpkin pie again, I might actually throw-" Olivia paused from speaking. Her eyes widened at the blue roses that sat on their dining room table.
"You did this?" Olivia pointed at the roses as she looked back at Layla.
"No, silly! This is for you.." Layla handed Olivia a note and headed toward their kitchen.
Who would send me 60 blue roses? Olivia thought to herself as she opened the note.
"Call Me. 323-123-4567. -K"
"I should've known" Olivia smiled to herself as she closed the note. The subtly sweet fragrance from the roses boosted her serotonin.
Olivia returned back to her room, grabbing her phone off of her dresser. She dialed Spencer's phone number and to her surprise, he answered after the first ring.
"Well, this was an unexpected surprise and a sweet gesture" Olivia said as she sat on the edge of her bed.
"This is my way of apologizing...you know. For leavin' the way I did and goin' off the grid these past few weeks..." Spencer explained. "I'm glad you liked 'em though" he continued.
"Apology accepted. How've you been?" Olivia asked as she laid back on her bed. Spencer exhaled through his mouth before answering her question.
"I'm...hangin' in there. Some shit popped off, so I've been layin low..." He drifted off, not wanting to disclose too much information.
"You...want to talk about it? I've honestly got nothing but time?" Olivia suggested, hoping he'd open up to her.
"What are you doin' this weekend?" Spencer ignored Olivia's question, causing her to loudly sigh. "I'll explain the shit to you later...just answer my question" He begged.
