Olivia Baker

"And that is why I've decided to change my major to Business and Management" Olivia happily revealed to her parents.

Olivia explained her choice to switch majors from nursing to business and management. Originally she'd plan on dropping out of school completely, but she figured changing majors would be the best option for her. She would still be in school and obtaining a degree, just not in the field of study her parents want her in.

Billy and Laura both stared at their daughter blankly, unsure of what to say.

"You're doing...what?!" Billy questioned, pacing back and forth with a hand on his chin.

"Billy, you need to relax" Laura whispered to her husband, placing her hands on his shoulders.

"Dad, I'm changing my major to Business and Management..." Olivia repeated, offering a small smile.

"I thought you were passionate about nursing, Olivia?" Lauren frowned, puzzled by Olivia's revelation.

"That is your dream, mom, not mine. I can't keep living my life to make you and dad happy! It's time that I finally go after what I want...and this is what I want!" Olivia argued. She couldn't understand why were parents were being difficult.

"Olivia, sweetie, you're not going to get anywhere in life with your 'dream' of being a 'Fashion Designer'. With a nursing degree, you're guaranteed a career with high pay!" Billy threw his hands up in frustration.

" And being miserable for the rest of my life..." Olivia chuckled as she shook her head. "I don't understand, you guys are supportive of Jordan and the shit he does with his life, why can't you do that for me?!" Olivia questioned her parents.

"We are, Olivia! You chose to go to UCLA and we supported that!" Laura stated, confused by Olivia's words.

"Because that's where you both wanted me to go!" Olivia continued.

"God, why can't you be like Jordan?" Billy questioned.

Olivia tilted her head and squinted her eyes at her father. "And that's when I leave..." she lightly chuckled to alleviate her nerves.

"You know...there's a clear difference in the way you treat Jordan and I. It's been there for as long as I could remember. And to be honest with you both, it really hurts. To feel like I'll never be good enough for the both of you! To not feel like I matter to the two people who are supposed to love me most!" Olivia said as tears welled up in her eyes.

"Olivia! We both love you-"

"Are you sure about that? Because it never felt that way!" Olivia grilled her father. "And it's not about the glitz and glam, I don't care about none of it honestly. I just wish I had present parents that actually fucking cared!" Olivia felt her throat closing up.

"Olivia-"

"You know...I don't want to talk about this anymore. I value my peace and happiness, those two are very important to me. And if that's not something you're willing to understand, then I don't need to be in your life" Olivia finished and started to grab her belongings.

"Olivia, you're not letting us talk!" Laura exclaimed as she watched her daughter gather her things.

"You've had twenty one years to do so..." Olivia shook her head as she walked away from her parents, leaving them speechless.
