Today everyone was waiting for Vikrant's test result with anticipation. Everything was on hold until his test results were negative. Vaani was eagerly waiting for him to get the result and she could feel that it was going to be negative because he did not show any symptoms and he was always, always very careful, taking precautions every time he went out.
Even Vaani was not that careful when she went out and just two days before she had gone to the city market, the busiest place in the city. She was afraid that she was going to catch the virus, instead of buying things.
"Did you get the results? " Vaani texted him, her legs shaking in nervousness.
"No, not yet" He replied worried himself. He did not want the wedding to be postponed because of this.
"If it's positive, we will just make the groom sit in another room, and at the time of ring ceremony, he can come out wearing 2-3 masks" Vaani's father Mantesh joked, making fun of the situation.
Vaani puffed out air, rolling her eyes at his poor joke. Here she was worried that her engagement was going to get canceled but her father was having fun. For Mantesh, it could have not come at the right time, his house was nowhere near complete and he needed more time before any function could be held there.
"It's negative" Vikrant texted Vaani, sighing in relief, and on the other side, she also did the same.
"Thank god"
"But my friend is saying that most of the time the PCR report is false," Vikrant said.
"Then? "
"I am going to get a scan because I am still coughing so much even with that cough syrup"
"Ok, when will you go? I think you should go now only" Vaani texted, having a dreadful feeling.
"Yeah, I am leaving now. I'll text you later" He replied, leaving in his car for his scan.
Now corona was in such a stage that in the PCR test, you could get a negative even when you are positive. So to get the right result it was better to check with two different tests. The scanning helps to see how much the lungs are affected.
"I got 4 out of 25, which is very mild. " Vikrant texted her at night, after getting back his scanning reports.
"That's good, right? "
"It means that my lungs are slightly infected, but it still means that I have to quarantine myself for a week" He informed her.
"Our engagement is on 25th, there are still 10 days left. You will be ok by then? " Vaani asked him and informed her parents of the news.
"I am not sure. After a week I have to go again for a checkup but it is necessary to stay 15 days inside"
Vaani groaned in frustration, knowing exactly what was going to happen. Her engagement for sure was canceled now, her time and energy in buying her clothes and stuff for her engagement gone in vain.
She had stressed herself soo much on every single thing just because of peer pressure. Otherwise, if it was left on her, she was going to be the simplest bride ever in the history of South Indian weddings. But everyone scolded her for being a simpleton and now see, what happened.
Mantesh called Rangayya, Vikrant's dad to assess the situation and to come to a decision about the engagement.
"We don't want to stress out the boy and the engagement is after 8 days, should we postpone it," Mantesh asked over the phone. As much as he had hoped to finish his daughter's marriage without any drama, things were not going his way.
