Chapter 12

My name is Hope Swan. I'm 18 years old and I live with my 12 year old brother and mother. My dad isn't in the picture, Emma, my mom, was 12 when she had me! I know, young! But it was young stupid love. Me and my mom are really close, our 'little' family is. For a long time it was just the two of us, but then life happened and Henry came along, and now it's just the three of us. Mom does have a boyfriend, Walsh, he's nice and one of the few boyfriends I have actually met, so mom must really like him. But he isn't part of our family, he's an outsider, he doesn't get us... yet!

I go to Juilliard, I'm a performer. Ever since I can remember, I've wanted to be on stage or behind a screen. I've wanted to act, be dramatic. Me and mom moved around a lot but with every school i went to, I would always go to drama club, i could always audition for the school play. Eventually I started taking it more seriously, going to clubs out side of school and auditioning for any play that i can. I started dance classes and singing classes. I loved all of it! I could never get enough. The time i spent not acting, singing or dancing, i was practicing. I didn't want to stop. So when i finished high school early, at the age of 16, i auditioned for Juilliard and got in! I was able to finish high school early because I have a really good memory and moved up a few grades.

My life is good, normal, I like routines and like knowing what is happening each day. So when I came home after a ling day at school, I was surprised to find Henry alone. Mom usually tells me if she isn't going to be home.

"Hey, how was school? Were you dramatic enough?" He asked while his eyes were glued to the tv screen where he was playing one of his video games

"Oh, i was very dramatic. Where's mom?" I asked looking around. She was usually in the sitting room with Henry, failing miserably at the game

"Date. Same restaurant they went to on their first date. What did you do today?" He asked

"Ballet class, Acting, then we got given our parts for the ballet were doing at the theatre and began rehearsals. So same restaurant huh?" I asked wanting him to talk more about that

"Yeah, I think he's going to propose. What part did you get?" He said in a chilled way. How was he so calm about Walsh potentially asking mom to marry him?

"Why aren't you freaking out about him proposing?" I asked

"Why are you? We like Walsh, he's a good guy and he makes mom happy" Henry replied

"I know, but it's still a big thing!" I replied

"We don't even know what she said yet! And you haven't told me what part you got in the ballet" He replied. He was right about Walsh. I shouldn't be freaking out. He is nice and he does make mom happy

"We're doing Romeo and Juliet... I got Juliet" i replied unable to stop the giant smile spreading across my face

"That's amazing!" Henry said finally looking away from the tv. He was genuinely happy for me, not the fake I'm happy for you but don't really care, he cared and was so excited for me. After i had grabbed some food, I sat down with him and we played some video games together in silence before mom came home.

"Hey" She said as she walked in and took her coat off "Mrs Cuse said you were quiet tonight"

"Not quiet, concentrating" Henry replied "I finally reached level 23"

"Mind if a fifth level wizard joins you?" Mom asked

"On level 23? Good luck with that" Henry replied. Mom sat down and grabbed a controller.

"Weren't you supposed to get your parts for the ballet today?" Mom asked me

"Yeah i got Juliet" i told her
