Chapter 17

The next morning, I woke early to find Mom gone, again. It was like I barely saw her these days. She said she had gone to see Mary-Margret and help set up baby stuff for them. Did that mean her case was done? I know she said she was going to catch the person who killed Henry's dad, but did she actually mean it?

I headed to the diner to get some food and found Henry playing a game on his phone. We sat and ate in silence. I felt like I couldn't talk to him anymore. This town has changed our relationship. I didn't want to talk about anything, I felt like I should talk about his dad, but what was I supposed to say? I don't like the guy. I'm sorry he died but he messed up our family, everyone was effected by what Henry's father did to Mom. So I didn't say anything. I sat and ate. When we had finished eating, Mom came walking into the diner

"Hey, your both going to hang out with Killian today" She said

"I was going to do something with Regina today" I replied

"Not today, I have something I need to do and she's helping me" She replied. I didn't bother arguing. Weather it was because I was still trying to be respectful of her feeling towards Henry's dad, or if it was because I just lacked the energy to do so, I don't know. Either way, I am hanging out with Killian today. We headed to the marine and Mom made us wait while she spoke to him alone.

"Come on then you two, lets go find something to do" Killian said after Mom had said bye and left. We headed back to the diner

"We literally could have stayed here while Mom went to get you" I mumbled under my breath. Killian pulled out some dice and taught us a game, which we kept playing for a while. He got us a couple plates of fries and the winner got to take one. Killian kept winning.

"Want to know the trick to winning?" He asked

"Practice?" Henry asked

"No my boy. Loaded dice" Killian replied

"That's cheating" Henry replied

"Only if you get caught" Killian replied

"It's still cheating" I replied pinching a fry that he stole from me earlier

"The point is, you win" He said. He looked over at the door and I followed his eyeline to David "Practice" He said handing Henry the dice before getting up and walking over to him. He looked uncomfortable talking to him, he was joined shortly by Mary-Margret and some other woman. And once they had finished talking, Killian left with the other woman.

"Hey, Killian had to go run and errand, so we said we would watch you two" David said

"Great" Henry replied

"We thought, we would do something fun!" David said

"Fun? Here? I didn't think it was possible" I replied

"Oh trust me, we have our moments. Come on" He said encouraging us to follow him out the diner. He showed us his truck like he expected us to understand what he was thinking

"Nice car" I said folding my arms

"I thought, we could teach Henry how to drive!" David replied

"Cool" Henry said. David gave him the keys and Henry got into the drivers seat of the car. Once he shut the door, I felt able to yell at David

"Are you insane? He's a kid! He can't drive, it's dangerous and illegal!" I said through gritted teeth

"It'll be fun. There are barely any cars on the road, and as far as the legality of to goes, I'm the sheriff" David replied

"Exactly! You shouldn't be promoting this!" I clapped back

"I just want him to have fun. I'll be right there next to him the whole time" He said walking towards the car "Everything will be fine" He said as he shut the door. He wasn't even listening to a word I said. I stayed outside with Mary-Margret as they set off.

Within 10 seconds of Henry driving, he nearly hit a car, crashed into a mail box and only nearly missed a couple walking down the street.

"HE'S INSANE!" I yelled as they continued down the road "I can't even watch" I replied walking back into the diner. Mary-Margret joined me and we waited for the sound of people screaming to know they were back. But the screams didn't come. Henry and David walked in a couple hours later, neither of them injured or dead, thankfully

"He wasn't half bad. He just needed time to get used to it" David said when I asked how it went. We headed back to their place shortly after and found mom, Regina and Killian all waiting around for us

"Hey, where have you been?" Mom asked

"Only having the best day ever! David let me drive his truck" Henry replied

"You let him what?" Regina burst out "Oh, as mayor, I can't let an un licenced, underaged driver on the streets of Storybrooke" She explained

"I tried to stop them but they wouldn't listen" I told them

"As Mayor, you might wanna throw a little money at road repair" David said to Regina

"Excuse me?" She asked

"Nothing" David replied

"This is a terrible mistake" Regina said shocked at David's audacity

"She's right, someone could have been seriously hurt" Mom replied

"Only if your a mail box" Mary-Margret replied

"It was so much fun!" Henry said

"What can I say? I've got a reckless, carefree, fun side" David replied. The atmosphere suddenly changed when Mary-Margret spoke

"Killian, where's our friend?" She asked

"Turns out her husband was home after all" He answered

"Its true, we just checked in on them on... skype" Mom said in a weird way

"A happy ending. Maybe our luck is about to change. Dinner at Granny's?" She asked. Everyone agreed

"Can I drive?" Henry asked. A loud chorus of "NO" was said by everyone before we got up and left. It was nice at dinner, it felt like a real, normal meal for once. We all chatted and laughed, I hadn't felt this good in such a long time it was like a breath of fresh air.
