Chapter 14

The next morning, Mom had left a note saying she had gone to work on the case. I had a text from her as well telling me that Regina was in the diner and she was going to hang out with us today. I read the message over and over again before pressing the call button

"Hello" Mom said down the phone

"Why are you setting up babysitters every day?" I asked pissed off

"What are you talking about?"Mom asked

"Yesterday it was Mary-Margret and today it's Regina? What is going on? Why are you forcing us to hang out with strangers?" I asked

"I'm not.. I just... they're old friends who want to get to know you" She replied

"So you don't mind if I off on my own then?" I asked

"I would prefer you to not be rude and stay with Regina" She said sternly. There was a long silence. I couldn't be bothered to argue with her, I'd only just woken up and she wasn't going to budge on this, i know her too well!

"Fine whatever" I replied and hung up before she could say anything else. Henry was already in the diner with Regina, reading the book he had got yesterday with Mary-Margaret. I ordered some food and when it arrived I went and sat next to henry, reading over his shoulder. After a long period of awkward silence, Regina suggested going out for ice cream. Henry, being Henry, excitedly agreed and went to get his stuff

"Everything ok Hope?" she asked

"Yep" I replied as I saw Henry walking back to us. She didn't have time to ask again, so we headed out, leaving the diner and walking towards a small lake. We walked around it and when we came back to our starting point, Regina got us both ice cream

"The ice cream good?" Regina asked

"Delicious! Our mom used to take us for gelato in little Italy. But this is just as good" He replied

"Well, Storybrook's got it's own charms. Though I know it must seem quaint compared to the big city" Regina said to Henry

"It's nice actually. New York's great but there's so many people it can make you feel..."

"Alone" Regina said finishing Henry's sentence "That's the best part of a small town. Everybody knows everybody. It's like... a big family" She said

"Can I tell you something?" Henry asked her

"Sure" she replied surprised at Henry's sudden honesty

"I don't think it was just the case that brought my mom here" Henry said

"What do you mean?" Regina asked

"I think she wanted to get out of New York for a while" He replied

"Why do you think that?" Regina asked

"Mom's boyfriend, his name was Walsh. He proposed to her... and two days later, she's taking us out of school for some job in Maine. She wouldn't take a job in Queens if it meant I'd miss school, not to mention Hope getting this big opportunity at school being the lead in the ballet!" Regina turned to face me, surprised for some reason, like she didn't think I could get the lead in a ballet! What did she know? I've known her for 5 minutes!

"What do you think happened?" Regina asked as she turned back to Henry

"I don't know. But I doubt we'd be here is she said yes" He replied

"And how do the pair of you feel about it? Did you like him, this Walsh?" Regina asked. I didn't bother answering! Why would I tell her personal stuff when I barely know her? Why Henry was telling her all this, I have no idea!
