The mirror Nerhegeb. The mirror that truly shows a person his most ardent desire. Hence its inscription on the uppermost edge. 'Not your face but your heart desire'.
Gently, Gillian ran her fingertips over the metallic frame of the century-old mirror and then glanced inside, but the only thing she saw was her own reflection looking back at her.
"Can it break?", Gill's gaze wandered uncertainly down the mirror, not knowing what to make of it; her brow furrowed as she did so and she turned questioningly to where Hunter stood, merely shrugging his shoulders, "They say it shows us what our heart desires most. However, I see nothing. According to this, is the mirror broken?"
"I rather don't think it's broken. It would be a pretty big coincidence if it happened to us a second time," Hunter took Gill by the shoulders; pushed her aside to change places with her and looked at his reflection skeptically, so that he could now make up his own mind, "If there should be a person who is happy without wishes, which should be very unlikely, even to him, the mirror shows something. It can be however small and insignificant."
Amused, Gill folded her arms on Hunter's shoulder and pushed her lower lip forward, watching both of their reflections after she put her chin up her arms. Whatever the mirror might show him was hopefully more than it showed her. Everything was more than nothing.
An involuntary smile settled on Hunter's lips a little later, and Gillian merely began to shake her head with a smirk, because it was so typical of him again.
"Is there anything I can do to help you two?" more than abruptly Hunter and Gillian sprang around to where they saw a man standing with a beard and his hands in his pockets, which was anything but exactly good to have been spotted, "As far as I know you're not students, nor do I remember you even being."
"Is that....?", Gill stuttered looking aghast and couldn't help but stare at the man in front of him without getting a clear word out, for the sole reason that it shouldn't have been to meet this man, "No, that can't be...."
"That's Dumbledore," he said haltingly, but Hunter didn't seem particularly convinced of his assumption, although it could be, "At least, I think it is. He looks like him.... a little bit at least. It's just because he's dead and he's standing there..... It's uncanny."
"I take it you two are looking for someone?" but neither Hunter nor Gillian moved or reacted instead they both looked at him with wide eyes, as if frozen, which made the supposed Dumbledore start, "Albus Dumbledore and since you look like you've seen a ghost from times past, I'm guessing I'm not the one you're looking for. Especially since you're not supposed to be here."
"Professor it's a little more complicated than.....," but Gill gave Hunter a jab in the ribs with his elbow to shut him right up, "..... we can't change it anyway, okay? It doesn't matter what one will be or what the sides or circumstances are, it remains Dumbledore. Without reason, I don't think one will be said about him."
"Be said. It's happening first. This is not the Dumbledore," Gillian hissed so softly that Dumbledore could not understand her following words either, "His path is not yet written. Only after the battle with him will it be so, and then he will come. Two people. One, in a good twenty years, and the other, in fifty. Before that, now at this moment, he is just some insignificant wizard. You expect too much."
Everything at once just doesn't work. No matter how much you want it to.
