"You rest here. I'll get you something to eat and some medicine", I told Hange placing her in my bed and taking of her glasses keeping it somewhere safe. I wasn't letting her sleep in the futon again until she's well enough. I headed to the kitchen in search of something for her to eat. I wasn't a doctor but from what I've heard before, you can't take medicine on an empty stomach. It doesn't help in digestion and all that doctor stuff. I got her a sandwich from the fridge and a cup of water with some paracetamol. Anything that could help calm her fever down.
I took it back to my room and placed it on my nightstand whilst sitting on the bed next to her, "Four-eyes..."
She looked red and sweaty. Her breath was deep and short. I nudged her a little bit at which her only response was groaning. After minutes of gently nudging her, she sat up. I watched her slowly eat and take the paracetamol and then lay back down. Making a decision on whether to stay with her or stay in her bedroom was difficult. But in the end, I chose her bedroom.
However that was wasn't a good choice because every so often I would wake up and go check up on her to make sure she was okay. Eventually I got tired of it and stayed there with her. I sat on the floor next to her and had her hands in mine. My eyes got heavy and before I knew it, I was asleep, my head on the same bed Hange was on and her hands in mine.
When I woke up, Hange was sat up, looking out the window. She hadn't even bothered taking her hands away because they were still under mine.
"Morning Levi", she told me. I sighed in relief.
"Morning"
"I should get ready for work"
"No you're not going". She opened her mouth to give me one hundred and ten reasons she should go to work but i wasn't having it.
"No four-eyes, you're staying home today"
"But I've missed so many days of work. I won't get paid enough at the end of the month"
"Hange its not your fault you got consumed by stress, fell down flights of stairs and had to stay in hospital for about a month and if that's not okay, get a bad fever. They should care well enough about your health because you going to work will only affect you in the worst way. Seriously, just stay home. I'll call in sick for you"
"Fine."
I picked up her phone and called the school office informing them that once again, Hange wouldn't be working. She gave me a smile of appreciation and without me telling her, went to shower. I got up after she left the room and went to wait for her at the dining room. After she had done bathing she came into the dining room taking a seat next to me and digging into her breakfast. We could hear noises from outside, cars, the door bells ringing and of course people walking in and out of my Cafe downstairs.
"Eld, Gunther and Oluo working again?", Hange asked after breakfast
"Yeah... Four eyes?"
She looked at me. "I rented us an apartment so we can move from here. Farlan and Isabel are finishing high school and needed a place to stay. So I said they could rent this place instead. Hope your okay with that"
She blinked a couple times "Why are you asking me?"
"Because..." I hadn't really thought of why Hange was still living with me. I said when she was strong enough she could leave. Except from the whole incident, she looks pretty fit. So why did I let her still stay with me?
"I just didn't think you were ready to take back your old life", I managed to form a reply. She nodded before stretching and squealing. I was glad she was definitely feeling better than yesterday night. I later on headed down to help the rest of my colleagues. We had a lot of customers and I wasn't sure why. It was until later that a customer came to order something.
"So this the Ackerman Cafe?", He questioned raising his thick eyebrows.
"Yes how may I help you?"
"Isn't that name a bit off for a splendid cafe like this? I saw it on one of your colleagues posts. She was advertising for it and I'm glad what she said was true"
I glanced up at him placing his offer on the counter "Better than naming it science cafe. And what do you mean one of my colleagues?"
He looked at his watch "oh dear, I need to be heading back. Tell Hange I look forward to seeing her tomorrow if she'll be in"
This man knows Hange. Thats annoying. But he seemed so familiar like I've seen him before. The eyebrows reminded me of someone I had seen before but can't remember where or who it was.
After the cafe closed I went back upstairs and sat on the couch. Hange appeared out of her room and sat next to me, looking as if she had something to spill out. I looked at her from the corner of my eye before putting down the phone.
"Before you say anything. Did you go advertising for my cafe?"
She grinned "Mhm! It was one of my instagram post and I told my colleagues at work as well. I told them how much your bakeries and tea tasted so good. They were intrested! And ever since I've been here I've not done anything. It's just you and your kindness so I wanted to be useful to you for once. Why?"
At least now I know what she meant when she said I made her feel useless.
"Some guy with thick brows came in today. He said he looked froward to seeing you tomorrow. Do you know him? Have you moved on from Moblit and gotten a new man already without me knowing?"
"WHAT?! NO! It was probably Erwin. I told the man to leave me alone but he doesn't listen"
So some guy at work is flirting with her. I dont even want to know how long for.
"He's my boss". I was shattered at that sentence. Her boss flirts with her?! Society today.
"Anyway, you looked like you had something to say earlier. What was it?"
The silence between us was awkward for a few seconds. And then she asked a question that shook me.
"Levi, what am I to you?"
