I froze like a deer in headlights. I didn't know what to do. The enormous creature was taller than me. It radiated dark smoke and shadows. It's claw-like legs scraped against the cement. My hands flew to my ears at the nails on a chalkboard painful sound. It hurt. I hurt.

Fear coursed through me like I hadn't felt since I was alive. It jolted me into action. I screamed and sprinted away from the monster. I glanced back to find it charging after me. It was so fast.

I charged through the buildings lining the streets, hoping it couldn't pass through physical objects like I could. It glided through the wall after me. I cursed. It was gaining on me. I put all my power and energy into getting away as fast as I could.

I was too far away from the house to rely on the guys for help. I wouldn't make it back, and they didn't know I was in trouble. If they did Pretty Boy could teleport. But that wasn't in the cards. I zig-zagged through the street and buildings, trying anything and everything I could think of, but it only got closer.

I turned again, checking its location and screamed bloody murder. It was right behind me. A sharp leg torn into my leg. I went down, rolling across the dirt. Whipping my head up, I glanced down at my leg horrified. A dark cut marred my skin with black veins spreading out from it.

Scrambling up, I backed away from it. It prowled toward me, a slow methodical stride. It knew it had me right where it wanted me. I couldn't run away from it. It was too fast. If running wasn't an option, I had to fight. I didn't know how to fight a shadow spider monster, but no time like the present.

"You know I've got some pretty powerful friends who are looking for you," I told it, trying to bide some time. I needed to come up with a plan. I still had some energy. There were a few street lights around, too, that I could pull from. "If I were you, I would run and hide."

A disjointed, high pitch gurgle sounded from the beast. I think it might have been a laugh. I cringed away from it. Shaking out my hands, I made myself stand tall. Fake it till you make it, right?

"Bring it on then," I taunted. As if it understood my words, it charged me.

I threw up my hands, pushing my energy into a barrier. It slammed into the barrier, sending me flying backward. I tumbled across the grass, landing flat on my back. It didn't give me a chance to get up. The grotesque beast landed on top of me, its legs pierced through my arms. I screamed at the fiery pain radiating through me. I tried to move, but it was useless. It had me pinned.

It lowered its head toward me. I cringed away from it, scraping for any energy I could find. I tried to force it off of me, but it barely flinched at my show of power. Its mouth gaped open, a dark void coming to swallow me whole. I screamed again, unable to do anything else as it got closer and closer.

Suddenly, it was thrown off of me. I gasped, gagging as its legs left my arms. The pain was unlike anything I had ever experienced, alive or dead. I rolled over, searching for the creature. I gasped at the sight that greet me.

The creature was easily fifty feet away from me. It flinched away from a dark figure. A ruby glow surrounded them. It pulsed like fire. They held a tall staff topped with a long curved blade in one hand. A scythe. Draped in shadows, I gasped as the figure stepped into the light.

White hair glowed in the moonlight. Mesmerizing red eyes filled with fury, stared down the koleti. He walked toward the monster, relaxed, swinging the scythe in lazy circles.

Kai.

The koleti tried to run, but it didn't get far. The ruby glow radiating from Kai surrounded it. It wailed a pain-filled cry that made me cover my ears again. Launching off the ground, Kai swept his blade down in a powerful overhead strike.
