5 years later
Steve walked through the compound after his support group, he always told people to move on but he was being hypocritical. Steve had never moved on from her. The memories of Y/n were present every day.
He could Natasha cry, which wasn't an unusual sound in the compound these days. It was as if a cloud of depression had clouded the Avengers, well except for Tony who was still in denial living happily off in the forest.
"I was going to offer to cook but you look miserable as it is" Steve said.
Natasha let out a small chuckle and wiped away her tears. She looked over and gave him a small smile as Steve walked over to sit across from her.
"How was it? The meeting" Natasha asked.
"It was alright the same old, telling people to move on" Steve said.
Natasha shook her head and let out a small chuckle.
"But we don't do we" Natasha said.
Steve pursed his lips and nodded.
"Maybe we should move on Steve, it's been five years" Natasha said her eyes grazing over the mess surrounding her desk.
"I don't think I can" Steve said.
His hands instinctively went into his pocket his thumb grazing over the compass. He carried the compass everyday. For five years it had never left his side and in Steve's mind she had never left his side.
"She's in a better place Steve, with Peter, Bucky, Sam" Natasha sighed, not only trying to comfort Steve but herself.
She was struggling too of course Y/n and Sam were two of her closest friends now the only person she had was Steve. Clint was off god knows where so she didn't have anyone else.
"I don't want her to be in a better place, I want her to be here, with me" Steve said grimacing at how selfish he sounded.
"I suppose your right, I wish she was here too" Natasha chuckled.
Steve gave a tight smile and pulled his hand out of his pocket.
"You still have the compass?" Natasha asked.
Steve nodded and Natasha gave him a sad smile.
"The ring too, I was going to propose with an actual ring but I guess that won't happen" Steve sighed.
"I'm sorry" Natasha said.
Steve nodded but didn't reply. Natasha opened her mouth to continue but a buzz of the doorbell interrupted the conversation.
"Who would be coming here?" Natasha muttered turning on the camera.
It was Scott. He was jumping up and down waving at the camera.
"I thought he was blipped" Steve said.
"Is it old footage?" Natasha questioned.
Steve shook his head.
"It's recent" Steve said.
They opened up the gate and went out to the front.
"Oh my god you guys are here" Scott said.
He practically collapsed into Steve's arms and the blonde looked down at him in confusion.
"I thought you'd been blipped" Steve said.
Scott pulled away and shook his head.
"I'll explain inside, I was gone for five hours and then poof everyone is gone" Scott said.
Steve and Natasha haltered there movements shocked. Scott turned around to look at the two his eyebrows scrunching in confusion.
"Scott it's been five years" Natasha said.
Scotts eye's widened and he ran his hands through his hair.
"Five, five years?" Scott said.
"Yeah, five years ago we fought Thanos and he snapped half the universe" Steve said.
"Fuck I've been gone five years, oh my oh my god Cassie will be all grown up and I missed out. I shouldn't have gone in the quantum realm and Hope, she's gone" Scott began to ramble on.
"Wait hold up, Quantum realm?" Steve asked.
"I'll explain inside" Scott sighed leading the two inside.
The three heroes went inside and Steve and Natasha stood next to eachother as Scott began to speak.
"So do either of you know about quantum physics" Scott asked.
Steve shook his head but Natasha nodded.
"Only to make conversation" Natasha shrugged.
Scott rambled on about the quantum realm and what happened, how time runs differently. Then it hit them. Time travel. It's possible.
"We could travel back, get the stones and return everyone back" Scott said.
"I could get Y/n back" Steve whispered to himself.
And for the first time in five years he felt hopeful. He hade hope.
"We'll get everyone back" Natasha smiled.
"We just need someone to help us" Scott said.
Natasha looked over to Steve and the blonde knew exactly what she was insinuating. Steve gave her a nod.
"We know someone" Natasha said.
