"I don't want to be blonde." The protest I'd recited more than five times came as I yanked my head forward so that I could glare at Ella."What? Maybe he's into blondes and he didn't want to offend yo- ow!" The pillow hit her square in the face and she glared at me as well, "I'm just saying. Most men think that being blonde is a standard of beauty."
"Since when did you get smart?" I asked clicking my tongue and returning to my position between her legs as she continued to braid my hair.
"There must have been a reason why Cole broke up with you. He looked at you like a goddess."
Groaning, I lifted my head up so that I could give her a flat look, "maybe he was imagining someone else. I read a book like that before."
"Your taste for lit is garbage," grumbling, she yanked at my hair a little harder.
"Watch it!" I yelled in pain. "And I'm not blaming him for dumping me, I mean the guy probably found someone better who knows to keep their shit together and doesn't let their past sexual escapades back in when they come begging but I'm messed up and I don't know what to do."
The tears were almost falling again so I sniffed and blinking them away, "he had every right."
"He was scared you were going to dump him sooner or later." Ella answered quietly. "He was insecure."
"We could have talked about it!" I shouted before I could reign in on my anger. "Or maybe not. I wouldn't have listened if it came to me so I have to be fair with him. I'm being a bitch knowing full well why he broke up with me and still blaming him coz it hurts a little less when I do. "
"O-kay?" She said rolling her lips in before she jumped when the doorbell rang. "It's probably Dave."
"Hey?" I heard him say from the doorway to Ella before they walked into the living room. "Your hair looks amazing, " he said giving me a small hug before sitting on the couch.
"Yoouu, can than-" the doorbell rang again before she could finish and she jumped onto her feet. "C'est une pizza!" She sang running to the door.
"She speaks French?"Dave asked a little surprised.
"She ordered pizza?" I asked with the same amount of surprise as Dave's.
"Yes and yea!" Ella sang walking back into the living room. "That's the only French I know by the way. "
"How did you learn?" I asked taking a slice of pizza from the box.
"You were working on some papers and Vin kept saying that until I learned it."
"Vin?" Dave asked from beside me and I nodded while Ella replied.
"Her workmate. " she said and offered Dave a piece of pizza who refused to take earning a 'suit yourself' shrug from her. "I'll just take the rest to my room so you guys can talk." She said leaving me two slices on a plate on the coffee table full of raisins. "Oh and if she lies to you just know Cole dumped her." She said popping two raisins in her mouth before she ran upstairs.
"You want to explain?"
"No? No! Not really. Being dumped kinda explains everything. " I said looking around the room. It really hurt to know that I hurt Cole and instead of talking to me he decided to end things.
"Why?" He asked confused and I narrowed my eyes at him. Was he serious?
It kinda took me long but I understood why.
"You!" My voice came out as an accusation and I shook my head with a sigh. "I'm not blaming you I just feel like he got threatened by you hanging out with me and even now when I say it it sounds all kinds of wrong ."
"Don't be hard on yourself. Maybe you guys can figure it out." He tried to reassure me and I shook my head.
"I don't want to figure things out. I'm done with this. What's the point anyway? You love someone and spend your whole life devoting all that you have and who you are to get what in the end? A heartbreak? Okay maybe I sucked at the whole relationship thing but we could have talked or worked on it before he just gave up and decided on us breaking up. It's stupid really. "
"It's not stupid. If the guy felt threatened then I understand how he must have felt," Dave assured me and I shook my head. "I want you to imagine this, you have the one person you want to spend your whole life with and every day you have to see that person allow other people in and pay you less attention each day and you have to act like you are happy when you are not."
"That's not wh-"
"Listen," he demanded politely and I shut up. "Maybe Cole sat at the party and thought, 'fuck it,if I'm gonna lose her then better do it right now before I'm in too deep.' The band aid logic?"
"What's- what's the band aid logic?"
"You know, rip it at once so the pain hits once and then it's gone?"
"And he just thought that breaking up with me with no farther explanation would hurt me less how?"
"I don't know his logic but I was trying to paint you a picture. Give yourself time to figure it out."
"You can't be smart right now. I want to sulk and blame him not listen to logic that makes perfect sense."
Dave laughed and picked a few raisins from the plate.
"Pavel wanted to know how you were doing. Said he couldn't get a hold of you."
"You still talk to him?" I asked mouth full of pizza.
"We are friends," he said playing with the raisins in his hands, "have you maybe ever thought of finding out who your dad was?"
"Why would I? My mom was pretty sure the guy hated me before I was even born so what's the point?" I shrugged, taking another bite of pizza.
"That's bad," he murmured more to himself but didn't say anything else. "I had your hoodies made and I'll pick them tomorrow. Wanna join me?"
"I'm sure Ella was more excited about them than I was."
"She'll join us." He said clapping his hands excitedly.
"I have a class in the morning so can we do it after?"
"Yeah, sure." He agreed before eating the raisins in his hands.
"You hate them," I observed as he scrunched up his face and I laughed a little.
"I had to eat the ones in my hand sooo yeah."
Laughing at him, I shook my head and took the rest from his hands and ate them. "Why do you hate them?"
"Uh," he gulped and looked away from me, "n-no particular reason."
"You okay?" I furrowed my brows confused by his reaction to whatever it was that made him uncomfortable.
"Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow?" He asked standing up and giving me a small kiss on the forehead which reminded me of Harris and I smiled.
"Yeah sure. Lemme walk you out." But the guy was already at the door.
"Good night." I called after him as he walked to his car and he turned to wave at me and gave me a small smile before he got in and drove away.
Okay, that was totally weird.
