i made it back to my house with no one in sight, luckily my dad and cynthia have gone to bed right as i made it through the window. my dad checked up on me just in time, i was already snuggled up into my bed with a sly grin. my eyes were drooping off when pebbles hit my window, i got up and looked down from my window to see ponyboy standing there.

i open my window to be hit with the breeze from outside, "ponyboy, it's late, what are you doing out here?"

"darry finally gave me permission to stay out late, mind coming down?" pony asks.

i looked at my window and back at pony, with a small nod. i ran to my closet to put on my sweatshirt the cheer team gets every game, in order to keep warm after a game. ponyboy held his arms out like a fool when my legs reached out the window, i took the chance to just fall right into his arms. he smiled at me when i opened my eyes, i returned him a smile with a pat on the shoulder.

we took off after giving my house one more look, ponyboy looked like he had somewhere in mind from that smirk he always carries. after running a long distance, we found ourselves by the park where the abandoned merry go round spun creepily. i turned to ponyboy with a shocked face after not noticing that huge bruise on his eye, and his busted lip.

"oh my goodness, your eye!" i tried to check it out but he pushed my hand away. "pony, if darry didn't check it out then i have to."

"well what if i said he did check it out?" he sassed.

"okay, you win." i huffed.

he pulled out a cigarette from the box and lit it up, he casually laid down with the cancer stick dangling from his lip. part of me just wanted to pull him up into a kiss, the way his eyes traveled to mine, and that smile. i laid down next to him where our eyes met, i gave him a small smirk where he just winked at me.

"give me that." i yanked the cigarette away from his fingers, taking a hit.

"you ain't gon' cough?" he remembered my first time smoking, horrible.

"please, i remember you had to stuff your active cigarette in your mouth when your mom walked in." i laughed, he shook his head. "damn, i miss louise. my mom is nothing compared to yours, not even cynthia who tries."

"louise loved you out of everyone, man she even gave you more attention than johnny." ponyboy took a drag from his cigarette. "you know, a week before she died, she told me she'd rather have you as a daughter than me as a son."

"don't deny i'm just a better human being than you." i giggled, ponyboy scoffed.

ponyboy then wrapped his arm around my shoulder and snuggled me up closer to his chest, it was much warmer there. we stargazed like it was 1964 where we both snuck out of the house at 2 in the morning, we ended up getting grounded for days and not being able to see each other until further notice. ponyboy took in one last drag before burning out the cigarette.

his eyes met with mine one last time but with a smile, i look away and pretend to not notice him still staring. ponyboy rubbed my shoulder with his free hand and my eyes start to drift off, i felt a small peck to my forehead before everything went black.
