a few greaser girls have asked me for a dance, i had to politely deny that request, they're just not my type from the ones that stab their boyfriends in the back. i sat at a table with curly who gave me a death stare, angela who was waiting for her date to come back with her drink, and johnny who was with that soc of his.

i watched from a distance where y/n was dancing with cherry and marcia, randy was standing in the corner watching them but bob was nowhere to be seen. randy and i are just acquaintances but we never say rude stuff about each other like that. i walked away from my table and up to randy who shared a nice bro-hug, sent me a small wave with a grin.

"can't dance that crazily like marcia?" i joked.

he chuckled, "if my legs could, it would."

"bob ain't here tonight?" i asked.

"he's in the office pulling another stunt but i'm sure his ass will be busted as soon as the principal gets here." randy shrugged. "heard a slow dance was coming on after this, got a gal in mind?"

"i was looking forward to asking y/n but i highly doubt she'd want to dance." i sighed.

"ponyboy, i don't know you that much but what you've got to know is that, you've got to go against what you disbelieve. if you don't believe you could get a chance with y/n, then you're crazy." didn't know if i should take that as an insult. "that girl talks about you non-stop, your name stays in my head because of her."

"really?" i raised my eyebrows.

"just ask her to dance and only wish for the best." randy said.

"then i will ask her." i stated.

"attapony." randy smiled.

'we belong together' by ritchie valens started playing, all girls and guys got into form and grabbed one another for a dance. cherry went off to somewhere while randy walked past me to go find marcia, y/n stood in the middle of the dance floor alone with a frown.

she noticed me walking up to her so her face started glowing with the yellow light reflecting into her face, i shook the feeling of fear and embarrassment off once we became face to face with each other.

"would you like to dance?" i asked, she nodded shyly.

her arms hung around my neck with my hands by her waist, she raised her head up a bit to stare straight into my eyes. i kept worrying about stepping on her shoes, that would've caused a whole rumble.

"ponyboy," she sighed. "i like you, and yes in that way. i've liked you since we were friends and still friends, but there was always cherry valance who made me feel like i couldn't compete for your attention."

"and to think that i've still got a chance with you now, i'm still always going to think about my best friend, cher-"

i cut y/n off by pressing my lips against hers, her body close to mine with hot breaths touching the bridges of our nose.

i pull apart from the kiss with a smirk, "did i ever mention i've always loved you?"

y/n smiles and pulls me back in for another kiss, balloons and confetti scattered through the air, some golden wrappers landed on our heads but we were unbothered by the disruption.

i finally find my kind of woman...
