"Where are you taking me?" y/n asked excitedly, giggling like a little girl. The cold night air painted her cheeks a delicate pinkish colour.
"You'll have to wait and see," I teased, enjoying keeping everything so mysterious. "We're almost there."
We strolled through a quiet street, finding pleasure in each other's company. Our fingers were entwined, so that the warmth of her hand seeped into my skin. It was a feeling I could get used to - her hand secured in mine.
I blushed involuntarily at the thought.
"Why are you suddenly so red?" Her tone of voice was playful, a mirroring of her true self. Often when we were together at competitions, there were too many prying eyes and too little time for us to joke around. Seeing even just a glimpse of her playful side brought a sense of happiness to my heart. She's comfortable with me.
I cleared my throat awkwardly, praying that the blood would stop rushing to my cheeks. "It's c-cold," I stuttered out like a coward.
"Sure it is." Y/n laughed and bumped my arm with her elbow. Her laugh made all my confidence strut away as if it was going on vacation, leaving me a shy and weak mess in her presence. I could only smile at her.
As we continued on, we were met by the stalls of a vibrant night market. The crowd of people were like ants on a termite hill, scurrying about to buy excotic fruits and antiques.
"I've never been to a night market before," y/n whispered, in awe of the scene before us. Her mouth was slightly agape, and the colours of the flickering lights reflected in her irises. She was definitely being drawn in by the mystical atmosphere.
"Do you want to explore it for a while?"
"Yes please!"
Before I could lead y/n into the crowd, she beat me to it and pulled me forward with her. Her enthusiasm surprised me, but in all honesty it gave me the willpower to face the clusters of people that we'd be pushing past.
The appetising smell of freshly baked breads and cakes infused the air with a hint of sweetness. It was mixed with the aroma of ground coffee beans from a nearby hot drinks stand. People were swarming around the stand, desperate to get a warm cup into their hands to keep the cold at bay.
"Oh, look at this!"
I was abruptly pulled out of the food section to a more quiet part of the market. We stopped in the middle of a small circle of stands. Judging by the number of odd little crafts and multicoloured fabrics scattered among the stalls, it was probably the artistic section. It took me a moment to register the absence of y/n's hand in mine. She was standing in front of a stall that exhibited all sorts of necklaces and jewellery, holding up a silver bracelet.
From afar the bracelet looked like nothing more than a mere silver chain, but upon closer inspection there were three thin circular plates connected to the chain. They were identical, each with a fine flowery pattern adorning its surface. Y/n clearly fancied it.
