The Last Chapter

They were all occupied with each thoughts about the patient inside the room and none of them even dared to talk.

“So, what’s gonna be our decision? Should we contact her or not?”

“I think it’s better if we let her out of it. Let’s give her time to rest because she deserve it after everything that had happened. After all, alam naman nating lahat na siya ang unang bibisitahin ni Mariya pag balik niya.” Fritzie replied with sympathizing tone.

“I agree. We failed to give her the peace she deserves. She just recovered from her past trauma and memories.

Ernest immediately console her by caressing her shoulders. Usually, Clarisse would be irritated but this time he leaned her head on Ernest while trying hard to conceal her tears. They all noticed it so they all hovered around, Ernest and Clarisse to give them warm embrace through group hug.

For the past weeks, they experience both chaos and grief together but they are trying to surpass it like before. Their friendship have already been tested for countless times but they remained to be strong because they all believed.

“Just one thing we must promise, I hope all of us will be there when she comes back. No matter where we are, even if we are from the opposite side of the world. Please, let’s all gather here again for her.” Fritzie place her hand in the middle as a symbol of their promise.

“Promise.” They all said in unison.

5 years later…

Mariya
I tapped my finger on the steering wheel while looking outside my car. Its been many years since I left and now that I’m back I still don’t know what to feel. Everything is just too overwhelming for me.

These past few years, all I did was to see and explore the world while I take my online classes. I want to find inner peace inside and healing. I wanted to focus on how to absorb and accept what happened.

Am I ready? How would I know if I am? I already know that I really need to face this no matter what.
I breathed deeply one more time and decided to get out of the car.

The wind blew my long hair as cars pass by but I remained staring at the building across the street.

Flowers are displayed outside the establishment signifying of the recent grand opening. The traffic light with a walking sign turned green in front of me and that was my cue to go. People cross the street with me while I was walking with slow pace. If this was years ago when I still had amnesia, I would’ve worn my earphone to avoid unnecessary contact but someone taught me to appreciate the people around.

A small smile crept from my lips as I remember his smiling face. I can’t wait to finally see him again.

People are entering but some would go back. Maybe they’re already full and occupied.
