Narrator's POV
"Somin. Can I talk to you for awhile?" A voice called out to Somin as she walked out of her waiting room.
She looked up to see a pair of familiar eyes. It was Jongkook. Her eyes slightly widened before she tried to relax her face. Her lips thinned as she wondered what he wanted to talk about. She bowed to him before replying.
"Yeah, sure. Let's talk in my waiting room," Somin opened the door of her waiting room and stepped aside to let Jongkook in. She closed the door, leaving the both of them in an empty small room.
She awkwardly walked towards a chair as he followed her. She sat down while he sat on a chair across from her. The room was filled with silence until Somin cleared her throat.
That seemed to awaken Jongkook's mind and he looked up, meeting her eyes slowly. "You don't mind if I get straight to the point?" He asked.
Somin cocked an eyebrow slightly at the question. "Well, the faster we settle this then the quicker we'll get to go home, yeah?" She put on a small smile, trying to point out that it's late.
She saw a small flame in his eyes as she said that but he remained his composure. He exhaled his breath and nodded. "You are invited to 'My Little Old Boy', right?" Jongkook questioned.
"You know about that?" Somin's eyebrows frowned. He shrugged. "The staffs from the show told me," He half-lied. "So, are you going?" He continued.
Somin wet her lips as her eyes scanned his face for any hint of what her answer should be. "Should I?" She half-heartedly answered.
Jongkook leaned back on the chair and cocked his head to the side. Both of them stared into each other's eyes for a moment. "You're my guide after all, sunbae. Do you encourage me to go?" She wanted to see how he would reply.
"That formal term of my name. Why do you call everyone casually except for me?" He suddenly asked as his ears perked up at the formal name-calling.
She broke the eye contact and inhaled, tucking a strand behind her ear. "I don't think we're close enough for me to call you casually. Don't you agree, sunbae?"
"No. I certainly don't agree."
Somin's head turned at his words. "Let's see. It's been 3 weeks since we've known each other. You do know that we still have..." He stopped before continuing. "No, I still have to guide you for another 27 episodes of Running Man. So..." He trailed off while his eyes flickered up to meet her eyes.
"Why don't we settle down and call each other casually?" He straightforwardly suggested. Her lips thinned once again at his suggestion.
"Firstly, I'm not here to listen to your complains about what I should call you, sunbae. You came to talk. So do talk, with all due respect," She sternly change the subject as she didn't want to bring up the name-calling topic.
Jongkook's nostrils flared as his fists clenched at her unkind words. "Fine, I'll talk. Since you want that so desperately." He cleared his throat and sat up.
"Don't accept the invitation to 'My Little Old Boy'. It'll be a waste of time," He inquired, making Somin surprised at the sudden demand.
She stood up, offended at his words. Jongkook groaned internally and stood up too. "You have no rights to tell me what to do. I'll go if I want to. It's my choice, not yours," She argued.
"Listen, you do know that I'll have to be there too, right? Won't you feel embarrassed that I'll be standing and supervising you?" He pointed it out, which Somin had to agree but it still wasn't right of him to just tell her to not go.
"No, you're embarrassed that you'll have to supervise someone while your mother is there and I'll be watching what you do at home," She bickered.
"Fine, yeah. Both of us will feel embarrassed and for what? Just don't go," Jongkook concluded, trying his best to not raise his voice.
Somin snickered and shooked her head. "No, I'll go," She decided. "What? Didn't you hear a single word I had just said?" He chuckled out of disbelief.
Somin took a deep breath and crossed her arms before continuing. "Then, you don't go since you are so embarrassed, alright?"
"I'm not that cheap, Somin," He ran a hand through his hair, glancing at the clock on the wall.
"God, what am I even doing at this point?" Jongkook whispered to himself. He glanced at Somin, who was in thoughts. "So, you're actually going?" He asked for the last time.
"Yes I'm going, sunbae," She stated. Jongkook's chest heaved up and down at how she called him. "Sunbae this, sunbae that..." He mumbled under his breath but loud enough for Somin to hear.
She ignored it and sighed. "Are we done, then?" She began to grow tired of talking. Jongkook looked at her and for once, he noticed how tired her eyes looked and the dark circles under her light makeup.
"Yes. I'm sorry I took your time," He apologised. Every now and then, he realised that most of their conversations ended with an apology, especially from him.
"Its all good," She opened the door and walked out of the room while Jongkook followed. Somin turned and nod her head towards him. "I'll see you soon..." She hesitated and let out a breath.
"...Jongkook oppa," His breath hitched, failing to hide his expression. She gave him a tired smile as he, unexpectedly, returned a small grin. "See you soon," He said before continuing. "Get a goodnight sleep, yeah?" His voice showed a hint of concern.
Both of them exchange eye contact for a second and Somin laughed softly. "You too, oppa. I'll get going now," She bowed once again and walked away.
"I'll be damned." That's what Jongkook thought as he felt a heartbeat that pounded too hard to his liking.
