Chapter 18:
She had no idea where she was. This place was completely different to the vast forest she was just beginning to know. She looked at her surroundings. So far, she could see no nearby villages, or people in general. She looked back at the towering clouds she had emerged from. She was away from Draven, and that's all that mattered. She decided to venture further, over the vast, mysterious landscape. Transforming back into her dragon form, she flew steadily over the unknown forest, careful to take all the details in. Thick mist covering the trees made it difficult to see what lied beneath her. Suddenly, heavy rain came pouring down, pelting against her scales. She shook the water off her head in frustration, when her attention turned to a small cave at the side of a nearby mountain. She took one last look at the land in front of her, and made her way to the cave. She landed heavily, quickly entering the cave. She transformed back into her human form, almost shaking with the cold. She took a look outside, the rain wasn't going to stop anytime soon. She turned to look inwards, quickly realising the cave was deeper than she had initially thought.
She stretched her left arm out in front of her, opening her clenched fist to create a small orb of magic. She let her little ball of blue magic guide her through the dark cave, its light barely touching the walls. She walked slowly, cautious of the fact that she didn't know this place. The cave seemed to go on and on, and just as she was about to turn back, an inscription on the wall caught her eye. She approached the wall, gently skimming her finger tips over the carved inscription. She furrowed her eyebrows, not knowing what the language was. Just as she was about to pull her hand away, the inscription lit up blue. The same blue as her magic. The light spread down one straight line of more writing along the wall. She gasped as the light spread, leading down the cave further into the dark. She looked back the way she had came, pausing for a moment. Doubting herself. 'Go...', she thought to herself. She shook her head, turning to the light. She began to follow it, not bothering to try and understand the writing.
"It's coming from this direction", Spyro said landing in a clearing. Loki climbed off his back, taking out his daggers almost immediately. They were surrounded by dark branches, covered in thorns, dead plants littering the ground. "Where the hell are we", Loki asked concerned by his surroundings. "No idea...but this is definitely where the sound is-", Spyro was cut off by a loud groan. The two looked in the same direction, leaning forward. They stared into the dark space in front of them. "Ladies first...", Spyro said quietly. Loki rolled his eyes but didn't comment. He stepped forward, approaching the source of sound. He stretched his left arm in front of him, creating a small orb of his magic, letting the green light guide him. Spyro watched him, then slowly began to follow. Loki stopped in his tracks, "It's a drop", he said bluntly. Spyro joined him at his side, looking down. "Maybe Blue is down there?", he guessed. Loki furrowed his brows, "maybe...", he let the orb of magic fall down into the cave. The drop was big. "We'll have to fly down..", Loki stated. "Nah, it's only about a mile, I think you should try your luck jumping it Loki. You are a god after all...", Spyro joked, batting his eyelids at the last part. Loki rolled his eyes smiling, "Still jealous are we? You get me down there Spyro and I'll make you an honorary god", he said climbing on his back. Spyro's eyes widened, "Oooo! God of what?", he asked intrigued. "Sarcasm", Loki said bluntly before the two dived into the cave.
Blue followed the light until she saw a natural light coming from the end of the cave. She walked towards it. As she reached the end, the exit was covered in delicate vines. She paused. She didn't understand why, but her heart was beating fast. Like she was anticipating something. Although she didn't know what to expect. She gently pushed through the vines, the sunlight hitting her skin as she emerged from the cave. Her eyes adjusted to the change in brightness. She stood before a breathtaking cove. It was quiet and enclosed. It was filled with tiny streams of clear water, lush grass, small blue flowers. There was a gentle breeze that led Blue to set her gaze upon a tree in the middle of the cove. It was a willow tree, its delicate branches hanging low, protecting it from the elements. She approached the tree slowly, never taking her eyes away from it's perfect leaves.
Loki and Spyro landed on the floor of the cave, Loki jumping off his back quickly. The two paused, checking for any threats. They looked at each other. "There's nothing here-", Spyro was cut off by a heavy breath. They turned to see a large dragon towering over them. The dragon stared down at them, though not moving a muscle. Spyro's eyes widened, "That's..the dragon that attacked me...with Draven". He said sounding slightly frightened. Loki looked up at the unmoving beast. He quickly turned his attention to the dragon's neck, "This dragon is chained", he stated, confused. The dragon still didn't move, he just stared at both Spyro and Loki. Loki stepped closer, "Look at his eyes...this dragon has been enchanted..", Spyro listened to Loki. He was right. The dragon's eyes appeared to be glazed over, covered in a black haze. "Can you help him Loki?", Spyro asked, concerned for the dragon. Loki held his hand out letting his magic contact the scales of the dragon's leg. He closed his eyes, concentrating on saving this dragon.
The dragon groaned shutting it's eyes tightly as Draven's magic was ripped from it's mind. The dragon's dark scales, slowly turned a deep purple, it's horns a dark yellow. He opened his eyes, the haze had disappeared. Loki and Spyro looked up, waiting for him to regain his senses and thoughts. "Thank you...", his voice was deep and hoarse. Loki simply nodded, while Spyro was stood still, dumbfound. "You....you look like me...", Spyro said quietly. The dragon bent down to Spyro's height, "And you look an awful lot like me..", he said with a tone of kindness in his voice. "We found the caves...in the south of the forest. We thought all the dragons were gone...", Spyro said furrowing his brows. The dragon smiled softly, "My name is Varick...and you must be the little one we lost some years ago..."
Blue reached the willow tree. She could see a figure sitting under the canopy of the tree. She gently pushed through the vine like branches of the willow tree. It was a woman, sat facing away from Blue, her legs crossed, back straight. She had long, flowing chestnut hair that reached the ground. She seemed to be wearing some form of armour made from completely natural materials. Blue's breathing became quicker and heavier. The woman stood, turning slowly to face Blue. Her face was gentle, her big blue eyes resembled those of Blue. Blue's breathing came to a sudden halt when she saw how much the woman looked like her. The woman smiled gently, "I knew you'd find me sweetheart..." Blue's eyes filled tears although her expression stayed the same, that of shock. The woman approached her slowly, embracing her gently. Blue let the tears fall from her eyes, all the while not making a sound. The breeze picked up around them, glowing specs of coloured light floating between the branches of the willow tree. Blue hugged the woman tightly, before pulled back. "You're my...", she paused afraid to say it. "Mother", the woman finished.
"My name is Avery...I've been waiting a very long time for you to find me dear...", she said with a gentle smile. Blue smiled awkwardly, "Sorry about the delay, I didn't know I was adopted until recently. I found the northern village already..I found Dad", she explained. "Conal..", Avery said with a tone of sadness. "He really misses you Mom, he searched everywhere for you...why didn't you go back?", Blue asked, concerned at her mother's sad expression. "It was all my fault. You. You were taken away because I left you unguarded. I trust that Conal would rather die then see me again..", she said turning away with teary eyes. "No that's not true! He loves you! Not having us with him these past nineteen years was killing him...", Blue explained. Avery quickly turned back around to her, "Enough about your father! I want to know all about you sweetheart! It's been nineteen years...you're all grown up!", she said smiling. Blue was taken back by the sudden change of subject, but she went along with it. "Well what do you wanna know?", Blue asked. "Well where have you been all these years? Who did you grow up with? Oooo do you have a girlfriend? Or a boyfriend?", her mother fired questions at her, overexcited about knowing her only child. "I grew up at the Skylanders academy, I was adopted by Eon...I grew up with Spyro who was also adopted..Mom I'd really love to tell you all about this but I have to get back to Dad. There's a dark sorcerer who needs taking care of, will you help?"
