Chapter Nine:

"So, which way do we go first..?", Loki asked looking between Spyro and Blue. The two looked at each other. "Blue, we should go North first...", Spyro suggested. "No, we should go South, to the caves...", she suggested. Loki puffed out his chest, "I'll decide, seeing as it benefits me in no shape or form. It's only fair", he announced. Blue gave him a stern look, "Let me guess you want us to go North?" He smiled, "You know me all too well..." Blue shook her head slightly, "We are going South first. We are closer South anyway...it makes more sense". She walked past the two, "We will fly, we can be there before dark", she said looking forward into the forest. She used her magic to transform into her night fury form. Loki smirked and got on her back, Spyro followed. She took off, gliding just above the tree tops. The three were silent. It made the journey seem longer. Suddenly Blue began to stir, she couldn't speak in her dragon form, so she had to get the others' attention another way. "What's wrong sweetheart..?", Loki asked placing a hand on her head. She gave him a small growl and looked forward. He followed her line of sight. Before them stood a great mass of cloud. Spyro also looked forward and braced himself. They didn't know this place, anything could lie in the mist. Blue slowed down, she was cautious. As they came to the edge of the cloud, her wings were balanced and entered the cloud smoothly. It was dark, but not too dark that they couldn't see anything. She looked around her, wide eyed, curious. Loki was preparing for something unpleasant, while Spyro looked around in wonder. Then, out of nowhere, the clouds started to present colour. Dark purple glows, blue and green, like an auora within the clouds....little sparks of magic slowly drifting past them. It was calm within the clouds, like a peaceful dream.

Then they saw the light at the end of the tunnel the small opening from the clouds, although this wasn't particularly a place you'd want to escape from. They left the mass of clouds, and soon wished they had stayed in it. There were no trees, only rock in the valley that stood beneath them. The sun was covered by thick grey clouds. The odd roll of thunder could be heard in the distance. The caves Draven had spoken of stood on the peaks of the small mountains. The centre of the valley, where a river once flowed, was dry, no plants or grass. Blue landed beside the nearest cave and transformed back to herself. She loosened her shoulders a little and looked around. "This place is..", she started. "Dead", Spyro finished. She looked at him with concern in her eyes. He turned to the cave, slowly walking inside. It was dark, but the back wall was less than five meters from the entrance. Only the dull natural light from outside lit some of the cave floor. It was the highest peak in the valley. Spyro looked around, hope slowly leaving his eyes. The cave only contained rocks, and bones from small animals that were well worn. "Maybe they are out hunting or something, wild dragons do that", Blue said trying to sound hopeful, looking out the entrance of the cave. Spyro faced the back wall, his head hanging low, "No one's been here for years...", he said sounding defeated. "Spyro.....you have to have hope...let's stay a while someone could come back...", she suggested. Spyro turned and began to walk towards the entrance, "No one is co-", he was interrupted by a quiet cracking sound. He look down and saw that he had stepped on something. He picked it up and looked at it closely, "Eggshell....", he whispered. "It's purple and orange...", Blue said curiously.

Spyro froze, and then sadness filled his eyes, "I was born here...", he walked out of the cave and sat on the edge of the peak outside the cave. Blues eyes sadened. She walked slowly out to Spyro, Loki stayed behind...this was delicate. Blue sat beside him, not really knowing what to say. "I almost had them...my real family...but they're all dead", a single tear ran down his cheek. There was hardly any emotion in his voice, just that of defeat. "I'm so sorry Spyro...I truely am", she put an arm around him. "Blue...you're my sister...I can't lose you. You and Eon are my family". Her eyes became teary, "Don't worry, you're not getting rid of me that easily. Or Eon.." He smiled at her though his eyes were sad. She hugged him tightly, "Nothing will tear us apart, I promise". Loki looked at the two from inside the cave. 'She's amazing', he thought to himself. He cleared his throat for Blue and Spyro to hear. They turned and Loki walked towards them, "We should head back to the forest, it'll be dark soon and we need to set up camp". Blue looked to Spyro and he smiled, "It's okay. I don't want to stay here any longer...it hurts", she nodded once and stood up. She transformed again and the two climbed on her back. She took off gaining alttitude fast. She headed for the mass of cloud again, not flying quite as slowly through it as last time, though they all still admired the beauty. No one spoke. Loki decided not to speak to Spyro, he was at an even higher risk of being pushed off Blue's back. Once out of the clouds, they glided swiftly over the tree tops. The sun was setting, and it was becoming dark fast. She landed in the forest gently, Loki and Spyro climbed off. Blue transformed and walked over to Loki, "What do I do? He's destroyed...", she asked as Spyro walked away to sit by himself.

"I don't know....there's nothing you can do to change things, there was no garentee either of you would find anything. At least he has closure", Loki tried explaining things as best he could, and as gently as he could. He could see she was very worried about Spyro. "Maybe we could go back to that guy Draven, he might know of somewhere else...", Blue suggested hopefully. Loki placed both hands on her shoulders, "It's done. You need to give him time to accept that...", he tried to pull her body into a hug her but she pulled away before he could, "What kind of attitude is that?", she questioned him. He huffed, "It's a realistic attitude sweetheart..", he answered sassily. She raised both her eyebrows and tilted her torso back, "Oh so now it's 'sweetheart', darling isn't my name, neither is sweetheart...", she walked away from him and began to set up camp. He sighed and followed. He tried helping her put up the tent. "I don't need your help..", she said through gritted teeth. He grabbed her arm tightly, "Look. I get you and your dragon  have had a little disappointment today, but there's no need to take it out on yours truly". He smirked slightly letting go of her arm. She looked him in the eye with fury, "Spyro just found out his entire birth family is gone. Have some empathy", she demanded. He laughed, "For him?! He wants me nothing but dead and you know it". She stood right in front of him, tilting her head up, they were less than an inch apart, "You shouldn't have come with us". He brought his face down to hers and their noses touched, causing Blue to bring her head back, but she didn't move from her spot. "I didn't come for him sweetheart, but you already know that deep down....it's getting dark. We should set up this tent and go to bed....", he said in a low whisper.
