Chapter Seven:
"That's not too much is it?", Blue asked as she looked up at Loki. He didn't answer, he just continued to examine her face features, a loving look in his eyes. "Loki..?", she tried getting his attention again. Whispering his name quietly. They were so close, close enough to just lean in and..."Loki!", she snapped louder. Loki's eyes snapped wide open, "Yes?", he responded. She took a step back, "Is that too much to carry..?", she asked again. Loki only shook his head. "Okay...then we should get back to Spyro...it's almost dark..", she explained to a still slightly dazed Loki, walking past him. She began to lead the way back. Loki shook his head one last time, attempting to bring himself back to reality. He was...mostly successful. He followed Blue back, carrying half the fire wood Blue had collected. He almost tripped a few times on roots and branches....his eyes were preoccupied. "Spyro?", Blue called out as they arrived back at their temporary camp. "Still here! Did you get the fire wood?", he asked, rising from where he had been lying down. "Yep, one of us had a little trouble figuring out what fire wood was...", she turned around to give Loki a look, "but we got there..", she finished, putting the wood down as she explained. Loki mimicked her actions by putting the wood down in the same spot. Blue took some of the wood away from the pile. Spyro stood. Loki walked over to the pile of fire wood, getting down on his knees. He picked up a stick and a stone and started to rub them together. Spyro smirked and fired at the pile. Loki jumped back in shock as the wood was suddenly set a blaze.
Loki held his arms out at his sides, "WHAT WAS THAT?!", he asked horrified. Spyro shrugged his shoulders, "I'm just saving you the hassle...", Spyro explained innocently. Loki's eyes went wide with anger, "Save me? You almost killed me!!", he shouted as he started striding towards Spyro. Spyro puffed out his chest, "Come at me! I dare you....", he said daringly. Loki stopped in his tracks. He turned to look at Blue, who was setting up a small tent. She was oblivious to the situation. He turned back to Spyro, "No. We'll let Blue settle this", he said sternly, turning to complain to her. He walked up to her quickly. "Blue. Your dragon tried to kill me", he stated blankly. She sighed loudly, "First of all...he's not my dragon. Second of all, he was just lighting the fire. No harm done", she patted him on the shoulder and continued working on the tent. Loki gritted his teeth in anger. He turned around only to find Spyro smiling and waving innocently at him from a distance. Loki growled under his breath. He turned to Blue again, "Darling I don't think I'm going to survive this trip...", he said as if overwhelmed. Blue turned to look at him slowly, "Loki. You are fine. Stop stressing, and help me put up this tent....please..", she spoke slowly, making sure he got everything. He huffed, but helped her anyway.
After the tent had been set up, darkness fell over the island. The three sat around the fire, Blue leaning against a very sleepy Spyro. No stars were visible, the fire was too bright. The night was also cold, the blaze keeping them from freezing. Eventually after eating, Spyro fell asleep. Loki and Blue sat across from each other awkwardly, the fire acting as a barrier between the two. "He was certainly tired", Loki stated gesturing towards Spyro. "Yeah...long flight I suppose...", Blue answered laughing a little. Silence again. The two sat there. Not really knowing what to say. "So...I hope we find your parents...", Loki said awkwardly. Blue smiled, "Me too..." Loki shifted a little where he was sitting. He tapped his fingers nervously. "So. What are the sleeping arrangements?", he blurted out suddenly. Blue looked at him confused. "I mean..there's only one tent...", he said. She smiled awkwardly, "Don't worry, we can share..there's enough room. Besides Spyro will insist on staying outside to 'keep guard'", she explained. Loki nodded slowly, "Right...and does 'enough' room mean just enough room or like plenty..of room..?", he asked curiously. "What are you getting at Loki?", she asked raising an eyebrow. He stood up and awkwardly rubbed his sweaty palms against his sides, "You know...will we be close..?", he asked almost under his breath, but just enough for Blue to hear. Blue sighed, "It's temporary..it's not forever..", she said standing and walking over to the tent.
Loki stood there. 'She must think I don't want to be near her...shit', he realised that he came off as...rude. He walked over to the tent, peaking inside. She was lying down, on her side. She was faced away from him, so he wasn't sure if she had already fallen asleep. He lay down slowly beside her, waiting for her to shift. She didn't. He decided not to ask her if she was awake, because by the looks of it, she wasn't. He stared at the roof of the tent for hours. Falling into a pit of endless thought. Blue was fast asleep, yet every time she moved, his heart fluttered. He never felt like this about anyone...ever. In saying that there was no competition. He wasn't much of a people person. Blue was his only friend as a child, and after they were separated, he had no one. And he didn't have anyone until he found her again. He didn't want to feel this way. Love would make him weak. Wait...love? Was that what he had for her? "Mother?", Loki called out for his mother, Frigga. He walked into the throne room, "Mother?", he called out again. "Loki. Your mother is in the gardens..", Odin answered his young son. "Thank you Father..", Loki responded. He made made his way out to the palace gardens. He found his mother sitting by the fountain. "Loki! Come here my son..", she said happy to see him. He ran to his mother. She embraced him tightly. He sat down with her. "Loki...why aren't you with the other children..? Thor...and your friends..?", she asked sounding concerned. "Mother! They are Thor's friends..not mine. They are mean to me...", he explained helplessly to Frigga. "Oh darling...I'm sure they aren't that bad..", she said trying to brighten his mood. "They are that bad mother! They make fun of me..and they never let me decide what we play! When is Blue coming back again? She's my best friend! She doesn't make fun of me....", he said sadly. Frigga sighed, "I'm sorry dear...Blue had to go home, for good this time...", she explained regretfully. Loki laughed a little, "No mother! I was going to marry her! She's nice and pretty!", he said playfully. But he was a child, there was some honesty in what he said. Frigga's expression went sad, "Come on dear, let's go inside. Your father will help you forget...", she said the second part under her breath, leading him inside.
Loki woke up in a sweat early the next morning. He almost jumped out of the tent as he woke up. Blue was gone, he could see the early morning sun shining through the material of the tent. He got up and poked his head out the gap of the door. Blue was standing at the edge of the island, Spyro by her side. Loki came out of the tent and walked over to Blue, joining her at her side. Blue turned to him, "Sup sleepyhead", she said casually. Loki smiled, brushing off her playful comment. The three looked out to the morning sky. The sun was just rising, the sky slightly pink. "Well...let's pack up camp. We should get going soon...", Blue said turning around to look at their small campsite. Loki turned and listened to her, "I'll get the tent", he volunteered. Blue smiled, "I'll make sure the fire is out" Spyro watched as the two went off to clean up, "Um...can I do something?", he asked. Loki waltzed back over to Spyro. He leaned down to his ear, "You're not needed", he whispered bitterly. Spyro pulled his head back, looking into Loki's eyes with confusion. Loki smirked at the sly insult he had just given Spyro. Loki turned and went back to the tent. Spyro was left to stand at the side lines...quite literally. He watched as the two poked fun at one another, laughing, smiling. His sadness turned to anger in a matter of seconds. Loki was stealing his sister. 'He's no good for her..', he thought to himself. "I need to fix this..", he whispered quietly.
