Chapter 17: "It's a Terrible Life"

Liz wakes up at 5:00am to workout. Liz works out for an hour and then showers. Liz goes to her daughters room to wake her up. Liz says, "Come on, you have to get ready for school." Winter groans and says, "Okay, I'm up." Liz then goes to make breakfast. Winter comes in ready for school and sees her mom made pancakes, with fruit on top. They both sit down and eat. Liz says, "What are your plans after school?" Winter says, "Well, I have soccer practice and then grandpa and grandma want to spend the rest of the hanging out." Liz smiles at Winter and says, "Will you tell grandma to make her famous pie for me?" Winter playful rolls her eyes and says, "Of course mom." Liz smiles. After breakfast, Liz drops her daughter at school and drives to her work. Liz's is the CEO of a marketing company. Liz makes it to her office and her assistant Jill says, "Good morning, Ms. Johnson. I have your morning coffee and the files that you wanted." Liz smiles and says, "Thank you, Jill." Jill nods and leaves. Liz gets started on working. It gets late, so Liz packs her stuff and leaves. Liz walks into an elevator and stands between two men. Liz feels someone staring at her and she looks to her right and says, "Can I help you?" The man looks at her and the guy beside her and says, "Do I know either of you?" The other guy says, "I don't think so." Liz says, "Aren't you Sam, you work for tech support?" Sam says, "You know who I am?" Liz softly smiles and says, "I'm CEO, I should know everyone who works in this building." The other guy smirks and says, "So, you know me?" Liz says, "Dean Smith, director of marketing." Dean nods and flirts, "Good to know. I thought most CEO's were douche bags." Liz softly smiles and says, "Sorry, but that's not who I am." Sam says, "Seriously though, other than work you both look really familiar." Dean nods and says, "Save it for the health club, pal." The elevator doors open and Liz and Dean both walk out. As Liz is working to her car, Liz can feel Dean's gaze on her and smirks.

The next day, Liz's in her office sending emails and planning an important meeting next week. Liz hears a knock on her door and looks up to see Dean and softly smiles. Dean walks in with two coffees and says, "Uh, Jill told me to give this to you." Liz says, "She did?" Dean nods and says, "Yeah." Liz takes the coffee and says, "Well, thank you." Liz sips her coffee and smiles in content. Liz notices Dean still here and says, "Did you need something?" Dean scratches the back of his neck and says, "I need some help with some work and I was wondering if you could help me?" Liz smiles and says, "Sure." Dean says, "Great, uh, let's say tonight my place at 7?" Liz says, "Okay. See you there." Dean smiles and says, "Okay." Dean leaves with a bright smile on his face and Liz smiles and thinks that he's very cute. Later, Liz packs her stuff to leave and sees Dean and Sam in the elevator. Liz can feel Sam's stare on her and she looks at him with a confused look. Sam says, "Can I ask you both a question?" As Liz says, "Yeah." Dean says, "Look, man, I told you, I'm not into the --" Sam says, "Oh, dude, come on. I'm not either. I just want to ask you both one question." Dean says, "Sure." Sam nods and chuckles and says, "What do you guys think about ghosts?" Dean says, "Ghosts?" Sam says, "Do you guys believe in them?" Liz says, "Yeah, I do." Sam says, "You do?" Liz nods and says, "Yeah, I believe that the I can sometimes feel a ghosts presence." Dean says, "Uh, tell you the truth, I've never given it much thought." Sam says, "Vampires?" Dean says, "What? Why?" Sam says, "'Cause I've been having some weird dreams lately. You know what I mean?" Dean says, "No, not really." Liz wants to say yes, but she just shakes her head. Sam says, "So... either of you have not had any weird dreams?" As Liz is about to say something, Dean says, "All right, look, man, uh.... I don't know you, okay? But I'm gonna do a public service and, uh, let you know that -- that you over-share." The elevator door opens and Dean walks out. Liz looks to Sam and says, "Come by my office tomorrow, I'd like to speak with you." Sam nods and says, "Okay." Liz leaves the elevator and goes to her car and sees Dean by it. Dean says, "Uh, here's my address for tonight." Liz grabs the paper and says, "Okay." Later, Liz knocks on Dean's door and he answers and says, "Hey, come on in." Liz walks in and says, "So, uh, what did you need help with?" Dean says, "Just some difficulties with marketing." Liz nods and she helps Dean for a couple of hours. Dean says, "Finally, we're done. Hey, thanks so much for helping." Liz smiles and says, "No problem." Dean doesn't want Liz to go, so he says, "Uh, you hungry?" Liz says, "Yeah." Dean says, "I could order some food, what do you like?" Liz says, "That sounds nice. Um, I like Chinese." Dean smiles and says, "Great, I'll go order and you can grab something out of the fridge." Liz smiles and says, "Okay." Then the food come and Liz and Dean are relaxing on his couch getting to know each other outside of work. Dean says, "So, your a single mom and running a company. Wow, must be a lot." Liz says, "It can be, but I have help and I try to fit in some of my personal like." Dean sips his juice and says, "So, I'm guessing you don't date much?" Liz says, "Yeah, every guy I've dated meet my daughter and they freak out and leave." Dean says, "Damn, those guys are idiots." Liz nods and says, "Yep. This was fun, but if you wanted to ask me out. You don't have to use a work excuse, I would have said yes anyway." Dean smiles and says, "Okay." Liz says, "Okay." Liz walks up to Dean and gives him a kiss and Dean kisses her back. Liz pulls away and whispers, "Goodnight Dean." Liz gives him one last kiss and he says, "Goodnight, Liz." Liz leaves his apartment with a smile.
