Chapter 16: "On the Head of a Pin"

Their in the car and Sam's driving. Sam says, "Ruby will meet us outside Cheyenne. She's been tracking some leads. Look, I know she's not exactly on your Christmas list, but if she can help us get to Lilith --" Dean says, "Man, work with Ruby, don't. I don't really give a rat's ass." Sam says, "What's your problem?" Dean says, "Pamela didn't want anything to do with this, and we dragged her back into it, guys." Sam says, "She knew what was a stake." Dean says, "Oh, yeah, saving the world. And we're doing such a damn good job of it." Sam says, "Dean --" Dean says, "I'm tired of burying friends, Sam." Sam says, "Look, if we catch a fresh trail --" Dean says, "We follow it. I know. Like I said, I'm just -- I'm just getting tired." Sam says, "Well, get angry." They make it to a motel and Dean says, "Home, crappy home." Liz turns on the lights and see Uriel and Castiel and Uriel says, "Winchester, Winchester, and Singer." Dean says, "Oh, come on!" Uriel says, "You are needed." Dean says, "Needed? We just got back from needed!" Uriel says, "Now, you mind your tone with me." Dean says, "No, you mind your damn tone with us." Liz says, "We just got back from Pamela's funeral. Pamela -- you know, psychic Pamela? You remember her. Cass, you remember her. You burned her eyes out. Yeah, then she died saving one your precious seals." Dean says, "So how about maybe you can stop pushing us around like chess pieces for five freakin' minutes!" Uriel says, "We raised you out of hell for our purposes." Dean says, "Yeah, and what were those again? What exactly do you want from me?" Uriel says, "Start with gratitude." Dean says, "Oh." Castiel says, "Dean, we know this is difficult to understand." Uriel says, "And we...don't...care. Now, seven angels have been murdered -- all of them from our Garrison. The last one was killed tonight." Dean says, "Demons? How they doing it?" Uriel says, "We don't know." Sam says, "I'm sorry, but what do you want us to do about it? I mean, a demon with the juice to ice angels has to be out of our league, right?" Uriel says, "We can handle the demons, thank you very much." Castiel says, "Once we find whoever it is." Liz says, "So, you need our help... hunting a demon?" Castiel says, "Not quite. We have Alastair." Dean says, "Great. He should be able to name your triggerman." Castiel says, "But he won't talk. Alastair's will is very strong. We've arrived at an impasse." Dean says, "Yeah, well, he's like a black belt in torture. I mean, you guys are out of your league." Uriel says, "That's why we've come to his student. You happen to be the most qualified interrogator we've got." Castiel says, "Dean...you're our best hope." Dean says, "No. No way. You can't ask me to do this, Cass -- not this." Uriel chuckles and walks up to Dean and says, "Who said anything...about asking?" Then they disappear taking Dean with them. Liz and Sam look at each other worried. Then Ruby walks in and says, "I can still smell them. Seriously, guys, I'm not exactly dying to tangle with angels again." Sam says, "I need you to find out where they took Dean." Ruby says, "Not sure I see the problem. You guys know they have Alastair strung up six ways from Sunday. Dean cuts himself a slice, Al's reduced to a quivering heap, and the good guys get the goods. What's wrong with that?" Sam says, "He can't do it." Ruby says, "Look, I get it. You guys don't want him going all torturing master again." Sam says, "No, I mean, he can't do it. He can't get the job done. Something happened to him downstairs, Ruby. He's not what he used to be. He's not strong enough." Ruby says, "And you think you are?" Sam says, "I will be." Liz then does a location spell to find Dean. Liz says, "Mihi Pareas. Ubicumque In Occulatione Sis, Defigo Te Ut Mihi Pareas. Igni...Fiat...Notum." Ruby notices Sam's face and says, "Relax, the fire is our friend. Besides, the only part of the map we need is the "Where's Dean" part." Liz says, "Out. There. That's where Dean is." Ruby says, "It's a good thing angels aren't concerned with hiding their dirty business. Not used to being spied on. I mean, who'd be stupid enough to try?" Sam looks at Liz and nods. Liz walks away to give them space to talk. Liz is in the car with Sam. As Sam is driving, he asks, "So, how did you learn that location spell?" Liz says, "From Ruby." Sam nods and says, "So, she told you that you have to kill Lilith?" Liz says, "Yep. Even though I don't want too. I don't have a choice." Sam says, "I could help you. You know, we could do it together." Sam looks at Liz and Liz says, "Okay." Sam nods and says, "Okay. Does Dean know?" Liz says, "Know what?" Sam says, "About you and Ruby?" Liz says, "Yeah." Liz and Sam arrive where Dean is and Sam uses his powers to save Castiel. Liz runs to where Dean is. Later, Liz and Sam are with Dean in the hospital and Liz is holding his hand. Their both waiting for him to wake up. Castiel walks past and Sam goes to follow him. Liz softly kisses Dean's hand. Sam went to get some food and then Dean wakes up to find Liz holding his hand. Dean gently squeezes her hand and softly says, "Hey." Liz looks up and softly says, "Hey, how you feeling?" Dean says, "Like crap." Liz slowly nods and Dean looks past Liz to see Castiel. Liz looks behind her and says, "I'll give you guys some space." Liz gets up to softly kiss Dean's lips and says, "I love you." Dean softly smiles and says, "I love you, too." Liz softly smiles and leaves them alone.
