Chapter One: New Beginnings

Hayden~

I got up from my single bed that was on the corner of my room and the sun shines straight in my eyes. I hate when that happens but today it feels like a good day. You know why?

Because I have, finally, decided to tell my parents who I really am.

"I am gay," I say as my dad is putting his shoes on for work and my mom spreading the butter on a toast, which was burnt as usual. Che, my sister, is just standing there not shocked because she already knows. My mom and dad just nod and say nothing for a few seconds. My mom finally breaks the silence saying, "Ah, dear. It's okay. I kind of knew you were anyways. David, honey you owe my fifty bucks," she says laughing. "WHAT? You bet on me? Nice of you," I say, as I eat my cereal.

Today, in a way, is a new beginning for me because I found out I was gay when I was in 8th grade and now, I am in 12th grade,senior year, finally in terms with it. Someone creeps up from behind me and puts his hand on my eyes. "Guess who?"

"Ohhh, I don't know, tricky question. Bobba Fett?"

"Hahaha, you got that right, Hayden," Jason says, my best friend who is also gay.

I and Jason are one of those nerds in the school. We just keep to ourselves and no one really bothers us except when its PE. I am only good at swimming so whenever I have PE, I am the last one to be chosen for the basketball team or the soccer team.

Liam has been my best friend since as long as I can remember. It was Jason who convinced me to be myself. I came out to my family but I will never be open at school.

As I entered the school and went to my locker, I looked at person I have always liked, Lachlan Wright. And man, he was right in many ways. But I don't think my love story will end him because he has a girlfriend who is also known as the 'bitch' of Kimberley High School. I have never met him, and he has never noiced me so I guess I'll just die with this secret.

I am in homeroom, minding my own business when Lachlan and one of the other student, Drew gets up and starts to fight. "You idiot, who the hell do you think you are," Lachlan says. "Stay in your damn limits." He starts to punch him and Drew punches back and when punching wasn't enough, they start to throw objects at each other. I have never seen Lachlan this angry before. It is then Lachlan throws the blackboard duster at me and seeing the bright yellow light was the last thing I can remember.

I open my eyes and the first thing I see is Jason standing there worried. "Oh, thank God. Nurse. Nurse! Hayden has regained his conscious." Someone else joins him as well which I presume is Nurse Hooper. I still feel a bit shaky and my head feels like it's about to explode.

"I recommend that you should go home and rest until tomorrow," she says as she scribbles something on her notepad. "Here you go show this on your way out to the school and before you say anything Jason, you can go home as well to see if he will be okay. If you are not back by third period I will call Claire." Claire is Jason's mom and Nurse Hooper is Jason's aunt. "Thank you, aunt. I will be back by third period. Now, you. Let's get you home. Leave your car here. It won't go anywhere." I nod and get up. My head is still killing.

As I pass the reception, Lachlan sees me for the first time with his ice blue eyes and opens his mouth. Oh god he hates me, I think as I walk.

But wait, why would he hate me? I should be hating him because he threw the duster at me, not I to him. I never knew liking someone this much would be that hard.

I come home and first thing is my mom asking me hundreds of questions. My head is killing so I decide to go to my bed. I tell Jason to wait for me downstairs.

Well I 'rest', I think about him. Why did he open his mouth when he saw me and looked away? It wasn't like my fault though, was it? He was the one threw a damn duster at me, not I to him. Enough, I think. I get up and take my towel.

I get in the shower. The hot water cascades down my hair and back. It felt like heaven. Hot water plus a bit of Zedd in the background while having a shower is heaven for me.

I get out of the shower and dry myself up. I look at bruise that is turning purple now. "Ah, damn it. Here goes another school picture." I cover it with my beanie, for now. I get ready and decide to go back to school with Jason. Few hours of rest was good enough for me. I am getting bored at home anyways.

I enter my school and the first thing I see is Lachlan Wright staring right at me.
