Life has never been easy for [name]
But then again, being a North Korean defector isn't something easy to deal with in the first place.
[name] fled North Korea despite the consequences, leaving their family there, promising to get them out of there. It was [name]'s lifetime goal.
Although the universe, on the other hand, has a knack for making people suffer.
The thing is... It's been almost a year, and [name] hadn't been able to come back for them...
[name] tried everything to get the money so that they could finally reunite with their family.
Their precious, precious family...
[name] couldn't help but feel helpless and scared.
I mean [name]'s all alone, scared shitless, with a small amount of money.
And [name] couldn't help but think,,,
Why did it have to be me that escaped..
Why did I have to be this useless...
[name] attacked themselves, their insecurities rapidly leaking out, tears dripping on the sidewalk as they crouched outside in the open rain.
Their hope is slowly drifting away...
That is until someone saved them.
Her name's Sae-byeok.
Kang Sae-byeok.

They were similar in a sense.
They had the same struggles in life.
It's scary how similar they were.
Being financially unstable, helpless North Korean defectors.
But they made it out alive, barely.
[name] and Sae-byeok helped each other emotionally, physically, mentally...
They were each other's lifeline.
Eventually, [name] and Sae-byeok's lives began to slowly sprout blessings.
They finally had enough money to save their own families from the hellhole.
They were finally happy.
[name] and Sae-byeok eventually got together in the future.
So that they could be happy together.

"Have I told you how grateful I am to have met you?" [name] says, looking away from the phone they were watching Netflix with, cuddled into Sae-byeok's arms.
"Yes you did, multiple times actually." Sae-byeok cooed, pressing a light kiss on [name]'s forehead making them flustered.
"Stop teasing me!" They slapped Sae-byeok's arm playfully making her laugh.
"I can't you're so adorable when you're like this." Sae-byeok tickled [name].
"Nooooo! STOP!" [name] faces the other way hoping they wouldn't they get tickled again.
Sae-byeok laughs, peppering [name]'s face with kisses.
"I love you, I hope you know that." Sae-byeok's trails off but you can hear the adoration in her voice.
[name] just looks away hoping she wouldn't see their red face.
The bed suddenly shuffles, then there was silence...
A few seconds of silence later a gust of wind suddenly blows into [name]'s ear making them slightly giggle.
"Y'know how much I hate it when you do that!" [name] giggles.
"I told you to stop." [name] faced Sae-byeok only to find an open window.
So that's whats causing the wind.
[name]'s eyes widen and they start to look around their room.
Sae-byeok is gone.
[name]'s smile falters as they looked at the phone they were watching Netflix with.
It's [name]'s favorite show.
Squid Game.
They're at the scene where Sae-byeok can be seen with her little brother, Cheol.
Ah.
I forgot about that part.
The part where Sae-byeok was only a character, and that she was just a figment of imagination.

[name] often forgets that all their memories were fake.
Tears drip on [name]'s screen as they try to recall their 'memories' only to realize they can't remember any.
You see, [name] did get their family back from North Korea.
But they were able to do it because of a help of a certain someone.
[name] fell in love with Sae-byeok's character.
[name] couldn't help it.
I mean the reason why [name] got back on her feet is because they were inspired and touched by Sae-byeok's character. They pushed and worked hard to get where they are now, just because of a fictional character.
[name] chuckled bitterly.
I achieved my goal already, but why am I not happy? [name] had thought, painfully smiling as Sae-byeok's image had popped in their head.
"Why aren't you real?"
A faint "In another life, my love." can be heard echoing the room as [name] continued to sob for their lover who doesn't even exist.
