"Let's try to finish it before Christmas para wala na tayong i-isipin. Overall okay naman na lahat. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year," sabi ko at nagpaalam na sa kanila saka umalis na ako sa meet.
I just had a virtual meeting with my groupmates for our project. That was my second zoom meeting for the day. I had an early zoom meeting with a brand company before that, and since it was lunchtime, I just ate while finishing my part of the project.
As I was doing my work, my phone rang. It was Kairo. He's been doing this lately. Calling me randomly everyday. Lagi niya ngang tinatanong kung nakaka-abala na ba siya, but I enjoy talking to him.
I answered it and put it on my wood phone stand, then I proceed on working. "Hi," I said without looking at him.
"Busy?" he casually asked.
"Not really. Just finishing some work," sabi ko naman at narinig ko na parang naglu-luto siya. "Cooking?"
"Yeah. Just woke up actually."
"First time," I said while I was typing on my computer.
I heard him laugh. Hindi na kami ulit nag-usap at tinoon ko naman na ang sarili ko sa ginagawa ko. I was surprised that he didn't end the call. Tini-tignan ko siya paminsan-minsan sa screen at abala naman siya sa pagbabasa habang naka-open ang TV niya.
Dahil sa araw-araw ko na siyang nakakausap, I'm learning so many things about him. I discovered that he is a bookworm. I also find it weird that he is more focused on loud background noises while he's reading. He can live by just eating spaghetti. He doesn't like dry foods like bread. He can play multiple kinds of instruments and he own more than 20 guitars— just some random things like that.
Nang matapos ko na ang ginagawa ko ay nagulat ako dahil wala nang maingay. I look at Kairo on the screen and he was... sleeping. He was sleeping on the couch while his book was on top of his chest. I watched him sleep through the screen. Mukha siyang bata na natutulog. Napakainosente niyang tignan.
"Cute mo," bulong ko naman habang tinitignan ko lang siya.
I muted my mic so I won't wake him up. When I was done, I fixed my papers and since I had time, I also cleaned my condo. 3 pm na ng matapos ako at hindi parin nagi-gising si Kairo.
"Kairo," I softly called him and to my surprise, nagising siya agad.
He opened his eyes slightly. "Done na?" tanong niya at tumango naman ako. Tumayo siya at nilagay naman niya 'yung librong binasa niya kanina sa may bookshelf.
"Akala ko ba kakagising mo lang kanina. Bakit bigla kang nakatulog?" I asked him.
He was walking around his condo. "Late na kase akong natulog kanina. I had to finish some plates."
