Rider's P.O.V

I just stared at him. A vampire? Seriously? I laughed. I was laughing so much that tears were streaking down my cheeks. He couldn't come up with anything better than that? "This was not the reaction I was expecting." Roux said as he waited for me to calm down.

I inhaled deeply. "I'm sorry. It's just-you can't seriously expect me to believe that, right?" I said once I found my voice.

His eyebrows hitched together. "You think I'm joking?" He said disgusted.

I nodded. "You have to be. Vampires aren't really real."

He huffed. "Do you want me to prove it to you?" His voice has taken that dangerous, odd tone again. I didn't answer him. He closed his eyes and shook for a moment. When he opened his eyes they were a dark, brownish yellow. He looked paler. He opened his mouth slowly and I could see his fangs. He hunched forward. I thought he was going to pounce on me, but than he strutted forward and he was gone within an instant. I stood there speechless for a second. Roux return in a flash with a huge tree branch.

"What are you-" Before I could finish he snapped the branch in half without so much as a flick of his fingers.

"Is that good enough proof for you?" He asked menacingly.

I licked my lips, trying to calm myself down. "Drink blood in front of me." I commanded.

His eyebrows shot up in surprise. "No."

I eyed him. "Why not?"I challenged.

His jaw tightened. "Because I could kill you if I didn't get myself under control." I gulped. "Now, can we drop this?"I

"Why? So you could kill me? Let the hunters find me so they can protect me! I don't want to be with some killer!" I snapped. "How do I know you weren't the one that killed my parents?"

His face twisted into a hurt expression. "I couldn't kill them."

I raised an eyebrow. "Why is that?"

"Because you're a hunter too, Rider." He said while he ran a frustrated hand through his hair.

I gasped. "What?" I asked shocked. He gave me a guilty look. "That's impossible! How could I....." I trailed off, staring at my hands.

He stepped closer to me, but I was too focused on having my melt down. "Ever wonder why it was so difficult for you to connect with anyone?" His voice was soft and careful. "Hunters can't connect with humans, it's rare when they do. You can only connected with monsters and other hunters."

I shook my head. "Not true! I was connecting with Beth!" I said trying to convincing myself more than him.

"You mean, Beth Everton?" He asked.

"How do you-" He interrupted me.

"She's an old friend of mine." I looked up at him. " She's a werewolf." He smirked.

I shook my head. "You're lying!" I refused.

He placed his hands around each of my shoulders. "I'm not lying to you, Rider." He said sweetly.

Tears blurred my vision. I peered up to him. "But you haven't been completely honest with me either." My voice shook.

"Because I was trying to protect you."

"Why?"

He sighed again. "Because I care about you, silly." He hugged me. "Why else would I put up with you?" He joked.

I giggled a bit. "Who are you really, Roux?"

"You already know." His breath warmed my hair.

"You really are the French prince that's been missing?" I questioned.

"Yes." He sounded defeated.

I pulled away from his embrace. "What exactly happened between you and your father?"

He stared at the ground, kicking the dirt around. "He disowned me."

"Why would he disown you?" My eyebrows knit together.

"That's all you need to know." He said before spinning around, but I wouldn't let this topic just die down. Roux needed to explain everything to me and quit leaving me in the dark.

"Just tell me!"
