Dream couldn't help but notice the small changes in George over the next few days. It all started after he had gone to breakfast with Niki, and Dream hadn't pressed the issue much further than that. It didn't really seem like George was open to talking about it, and Dream was only trying to avoid an unnecessary argument.
But George was being quieter than usual, and whenever Dream would ask him what was wrong he would simply smile and say nothing. But Dream knew him well enough to know that the smiles were often forced, and he knew that George couldn't be telling the truth because they would often lapse right back into silence.
And then there was the fact that George seemed to always be distracted by his phone. He seemed to be checking it constantly, but only when he was far enough away for Dream to not see what he was checking.
Dream didn't want to worry too much, but everything together was making him feel a bit uneasy. He knew it was only a matter of time before he would have to question George about what was going on.
But he let a week go by, and on Saturday morning, he woke up early enough to see that George was already awake and in the shower. It was strange for the brunette to be awake at this hour, and Dream found himself rolling out of bed and walking into the bathroom.
He was still half asleep, and he gave George a grin as his head poked out from behind the shower curtain.
"Morning," Dream mumbled with a yawn, reaching for his toothbrush.
George faltered for a moment, and then he answered with a quick, "morning" before disappearing behind the curtain again.
Dream was too tired to give it too much attention, so he finished brushing his teeth and washing his face in silence.
By the time he was back in the bedroom and pulling on a hoodie, George was emerging from the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. He kept quiet, crossing over to the dresser and rummaging through for a pair of jeans and a sweater.
Dream was sitting on their bed, half distracted by his laptop as he asked, "are you going somewhere today, George?"
He lifted his eyes and watched as George paused near the dresser for a moment. But he seemed to recover quickly, sliding the drawer closed and gathering his clothes in his arms as he answered, "yeah, I just have some stuff to do this morning. Nothing too exciting, I shouldn't be gone for too long."
It was a vague answer, and Dream raised an eyebrow as he responded, "I can go with you if you'd like. I don't mind keeping you company."
"Oh," George spoke quietly, hovering near the bathroom door, "that's okay. It'll be boring, and I'll probably stop by and see Niki for a bit."
The bathroom door was closing before Dream had a chance to respond, and George didn't offer much more than a quick smile and a kiss on the cheek before he was leaving the apartment.

A couple of hours ticked by, and Dream spent the majority of his morning messing around on his laptop and watching Netflix. Tommy had gone to Tubbo's for the weekend, and the apartment was much quieter than what he was used to.
It wasn't long before he found himself getting restless and bored, and he slid his phone out of his pocket. He was tempted to text George and see when he would be home, but he decided instead to call Sapnap and see what he was up to.
He put the phone on speaker and leaned back against the couch, smiling to himself as Sapnap answered, "hey, Dream. What's up?"
"Hey, Sapnap," Dream responded, "I'm bored. What are you up to?"
