*George's perspective

Dream was gone for hours, and George had barely moved from the couch all day. He felt terrible about the whole situation, stuck in a mess that had been his own doing. All he really wanted was for Dream to come home so he could explain himself, he hated leaving things unresolved like this.

But even as it turned dark outside, Dream still didn't return to the apartment. A feeling of unease began to settle deep in George's stomach, but every time he tried to call the blonde, it went to voice mail. He wasn't used to Dream ignoring him, even when he was upset, but he wasn't sure what more he could do.

He didn't even know where Dream had gone off to, because he had called all of their friends and no one had heard from him. So all he could really do was wait, a blanket pulled tightly around his shoulders as he stared mindlessly at the front door.

After what felt like a lifetime, the door was finally opening, and George exhaled a breath of relief as Dream stepped into the room. But the relief faded quickly, and concern pushed it's way back in as George took in the green eyes rimmed in red, and the way they didn't quite seem to focus on the brunette or anything else in the room.

But he didn't want to jump to conclusions, because maybe Dream was tired or had been crying. George was sure his own eyes were probably red and puffy from all of the crying he had done himself, so he tried to push the thoughts away as he quietly asked, "are you okay, Dream?"

Dream only nodded, keeping quiet as he sat down beside George on the couch. George's heart was beating hard, and he turned to face Dream, expecting him to do the same. But Dream stayed still, his eyes cast down to the floor in front of him even as George finally spoke, "I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have lied to you about any of it."

"You're right, you shouldn't have," Dream answered after a beat of silence. He sounded tired to George, and his chest ached as the blonde continued by asking, "but why did you lie about it, George?"

He could feel tears brimming in his eyes, but he took a slow breath as he muttered, "I don't know, it was stupid of me."

He knew Dream wouldn't be satisfied with the answer, and it was only confirmed when Dream shook his head and sighed in response. He finally lifted his eyes to meet George's, and his voice was quiet as he said, "I need you to be able to talk to me, George. Because I can't marry someone that I don't trust."

George's heart practically stopped beating at the words, his eyebrows furrowing together as he reached for Dream's hand and said, "Dream..."

But his voice trailed off as Dream pulled his hand away, his eyes still watching George as he quietly asked, "did you lie about it because you have feelings for him?"

George shook his head quickly, his hands instinctively reaching for Dream's face and pulling him closer as he said, "Dream I-"

But his voice trailed off as soon as Dream's face was close enough for George to be able to tell what was going on. He held Dream's gaze for a moment, completely forgetting about their current argument as he pulled back slightly and quietly asked, "Dream, what did you do?"

Dream's expression shifted for only a second, but George could feel the warmth bloom over the blonde's face as Dream quickly muttered, "what do you mean? I didn't do anything."

George let his hands fall away from the blonde's face, keeping his eyes trained on Dream as a couple of tears spilled down his cheeks and he said, "don't lie to me, Dream. Please, not about this."

Dream's eyes dropped to the space between them, but George saw the quick look of regret that passed over his face. It was barely anything, but it was just enough to send more tears spilling down George's face.
