Chapter 32: Someday

After the incident with Harry, George seemed cautious about letting the boys go out to clubs after shows. They rocked the house in New Orleans three nights in a row, and we were headed straight for Orlando as Harry's birthday loomed on the horizon.

I'd been talking to Fiona a lot, the second she heard my idea for Harry's birthday she demanded the spot as my partner in crime. "So, you were thinking after their show tonight?" We were sitting in the tour bus, everyone was outside playing soccer in the lot. Normally, harry wouldn't leave me inside when he was out, but I'd made sure Zayn kept him out of earshot.

"Yeah, with lights and everything," I replied, adding ideas to the list on my phone. "Can we set up while the boys do their show?"

"Perfect," Fiona said, smiling at me. "I'll talk to George."

That night at the concert, half the world seemed to know that my baby was turning eighteen. Girls held signs and Twitter was exploding and still, all Harry cared about was making sure I had enough to eat before he left to set up for the show.

"How come you're not coming tonight?" he pouted, tucking my hair behind my ear and touching my neck softly with his fingers.

"I have to help Fiona with something," I lied. "I'll be here for you when you come back, I promise." It took Harry a few more promises and a kiss on the nose before he could get up and leave the bus.

Fiona and I had to wait for an hour before we could start setting up my special spot in the park, so we sat around the tour bus and talked about how the tour was more than half over.

"It's gone by so quickly," I breathed, hardly believing it. "It seems like only yesterday that Greg was teaching us quadratic formulas." Fiona laughed.

"Yeah, now it's pre-calc all the way," she said with sarcastic enthusiasm.

"But just think, if we'd stayed back in regular school...we'd be missing all this," I said, gesturing around at the bus. "All these sexy man socks and Xbox games." I broke into laughter and Fiona joined in.

"Yeah, I prefer unfortunately timed tutoring to high school any day," she said. Fiona looked at her watch and nodded towards the door. "Ready to go?" I grabbed the bag of supplies from the door and followed her outside.

The park was empty as evening approached, and I found the perfect spot under a tree. We spent an hour and a half stringing up tiny white lights and candles all around my little picnic blanket. As Harry's return approached, Fiona stayed to guard our creation as I walked to the nearest store and got together some food. I knew he'd be starving from performing, so I got all of his favorite things. When I came back, Fiona was on the phone with Liam. She beckoned to me and I sat beside her on the blanket.

"The boys are on their way back to the bus," she said, putting Liam on speaker phone. "How are you going to get Harry over here?"

"Uhh, I'll tell him it's something important. Won't give a lot away." I got up and started lighting all the candles, they fluttered in the evening breeze. I heard rustling on Liam's end of the phone and stopped to listen.

"Oh, hey Harry," Liam said quickly, so we knew not to give anything away.

"Who's that?" Harry's voice asked curiously.
